cross country shoes for a 10 year old?

I've never ventured over to this section so be kind to me and excuse my ignorance.
My DD has been chosen for her cross country team. She and three others who are part of the club were picked. Since there were only four of them to start with it is not a great accolade, however. She has her first 1.4km race on Saturday and I was wondering whether she needed proper shoes/boots for it.
I can never catch the person who organises it and don't know any of the other mums of children in the squad.
Many thanks for your input.

I should add, she has a pair of trainers that cost around £15 from a sports shop. They don't have ankle support if that is important.

Bit late now, but what did you do?
I would have thought going to the shops was the only option, because good fit was so essential, just see what they have.
I run in cleats myself (yes, footie shoes) but maybe not ideal.

Late response, she did it in her cheap trainers and came 15th out of 150. I don't know who was the more surprised, her or me.
