Can no longer afford my much loved gym membership. I want to stay fit but need your tips on how to do this on a budget. At the moment I run twice a week and spin two to three times a week so would like to stay at this level. Any tips on dvds I could use or anything you have found to work.

Do you have a bike? If so you can keep up with your current exercise plan, or if not you can keep your fitness up by running 3 - 4 times per week and maybe throwing in some bodyweight exercises such as squats/lunges, press ups and ab work without spending any money.

Assuming you don't have a bike: running wise I'd probably up it to 3 times per week, throwing in a longer, slower run and maybe some intervals (1 minute hard, 2 minutes easy for 20 -30 minutes) and a gentle run and then maybe on your other days do a warm up of a jog round the block and then 3 sets of 10 press ups, squats, ab curls and then throw in a plank for as long as you can hold at the end.

I wanted to loose weight and tone up but couldn't afford the gym. Someone on here recommended Claire Nasirs boot camp DVD and since doing it, along with healthy eating I have lost almost 2 1/2 stones. would well recommend it.

Buy a road bike and cycle, which will be fine through the summer months and then during the winter get a turbo trainer so you can spin inside to musci or dvd's of mts roads.

Join a road club near to you look on the CTC website for info on cycling clubs and go along for their rides - they are usually free and go at a good pace but you always cycle faster with someone else any way so your speed would increase. Socialable to.

Join a trathlon club much cheaper option than the gym and you get to swim, run and cycle with others.

These are all really good ideas. I brought the 30 day shred dvd and did level one this am with the children. This combined with running and fixing the bike puncture look like they may do the trick. Thankyou so much for your responses.
