Freaky dancing - i'm channelling my inner Bez in the name of excercise!

Anyone want to join me?

I've had real trouble trying to find an excercise class to fit around the dds (nearly 5 and just turned 1); running means i only get to excercise at the weekend when dh's around (and besides, i always run into neighbours who expect me to stop and explain myself). I bought a mini trampoline but lets just say my pelvic floor isn't quite up to it yet!

So... I've taken to dancing round the room like a loon to whatever wonderful music takes my fancy, whilst dd2 is napping, for 30 mins a day. My only rule is that I can't stop during that time (so if washing needs folding it has to endure being twirled around my head to Jimi Hendrix before it makes it to the drawer), if dd2 wakes up i dance all the way to her and get her to join in with me.

I know it's not going to make me super fit overnight, or indeed ever (probably), but the way i see it, 30 mins a day over the course of a year has got to have some kind of effect.

My aim is to lose all my self consciousness while i'm twirling around, lose myself in the music and generally stop giving a damn about what i look like and whether the next door neighbour is secretly filming me and sticking it on youtube!

I thought if anyone else fancies joining me we could sign in each day about what music is inspiring us and maybe even share some freaky dance moves... Grin

This has made me Grin.

We have just got an xbox kinect, its worse than the gym Smile

IntergalacticHussy · 28/02/2011 11:37

really?

I love the idea of having an xbox or maybe a wiii (not sure how many i's?) but worry it would just be another reason to stay indoors (unlike my Bez esque dancing of course)

We have both Blush. I ache much more after the kinect, I think because you don't use a control with it, I have a tendency to leap about like a monkey, I have my head, arms, legs all flapping about at the same time Grin

IntergalacticHussy · 28/02/2011 11:59

excellent, that's the spirit! do you feel slightly liberated from the daily grind afterwards?

Ha ha don't know about the daily grind but I shut the curtains yesterday and played kinect in the nude as you get so damn hot so that was my liberation for the day. Worst bit is though, it has a built in camera.......... Grin

IntergalacticHussy · 01/03/2011 09:38

oh no!!!! see, that's the part that would scare me...

right, today i'm going to do my best Morrissey impression... I even have some flowers to ponce around with Grin

will report back later...

sadly dh seems to have taken The Smiths to work with him, so i've had to make do.

Having said that, i can now thoroughly recommend Blur's Parklife (the album) for a varied workout, if you can call jumping round like a loon a workout Blush

M People are my band of choice. Have not leapt around in the nude playing kinect again, as I hurt in various places.

Dh and I may go out jogging this evening. Beware people of Norfolk, it's not an earthquake it's me pounding the streets.

Lizzylou · 01/03/2011 17:21

This reminds me of that Friends bit where Phoebe runs "like noone is watching".
I do Zumba once a week, it is similar feeling, noone is very coordinated but it is such fun Smile

IntergalacticHussy · 03/03/2011 09:57

doubly so, fimbo as i'm an honorary norfolk lass too! it's all gonna fall into the sea a lot quicker with us around Grin

lizzyloo - it is all a bit Phoebe inspired i must admit... dh says i'm half her and half monica Hmm

What's Zumba? or should i just google it? i'll go away and google it, cos it's irritating when people don't!

it looks quite cultish, but in a good way, and presumably without any weird rituals; lots of shiny estatic faces, a bit like me leaping round my bedroom Blush but infinitely more sociable...

there's quite a few classes in Norwich; perhaps i'll give it a look after we've moved

Zumba is amazing, it is just so much fun and I look forward to it every week.
It is basically a room full of women (though we did have one man this week) of all shapes and sizes ranging from 16-70 yrs old dancing (badly!) to salsa/latin style music. The instructors are very good and it is a real buzz.
No need to feel self-conscious either as in our class it is only the instructor who can actually dance!

ohfuschia · 03/03/2011 10:38

Yes I'm another who does this to whatever takes my fancy. Though the Pixies are a particular favourite a bit of early Michael Jackson seems to get the heart rate up

IntergalacticHussy · 03/03/2011 10:43

i so have to try it now, lizzylou. looks fab.

Ooh, the Pixies - something twirly like 'Here comes your man' would work, and early Michael Jackson, why didn't i think of that? 'Billy Jean' would be a great one... oh dear, dd2's waking up, i'll have to postpone the sweaty dancing till her afternoon nap

Do you want to join the Norwich meet-up thread IGH? Although I personally haven't met up with the rest {yet} lol Grin
