the macho world of cycling accessories

A bit of a moan, really...why do bike accessories and websites have to be so relentlessly macho and dreary?

I want to get DD (nearly 9) a pannier bag and some fun, cool accessories. Have eventually found a cute Basil small size bag, but no thanks to the grim-faced lads who appear to have put together most of the cycle online shops.

Any suggestions please where I can get mudguards for a 24" bike that are NOT BLACK. Her bike is turquoise with fuchsia decals. It's a reasonably high quality bike (Dawes). Would it really be too much to ask to get something in a funky oolour?

Also, where might I get a small pannier rack? I know Islabikes make them, but they don't seem to offer them separately, and I can't find anywhere to buy them.

And any ideas for additional fun accessories please...

I used to get fun bike stuff from Toys r Us for DSs smaller bike. Also Evans cycles are a bit more family friendly than some of the other sites.

Thanks JeffVadar, will check them out. I did find a gel saddle cover on ebay today.

Minx sometimes does fun accessories. I'm not sure if they have anything right now that would fit your bill, but Debbie is very nice if you have any special requests.

I went to an evans in central London (the holborn branch) to get some accessories for the dcs' bikes and they were fabulous, incredibly helpful staff.

I came out with some great lights, was very pleased, and I'll certainly use them again.

I cycle quite a bit and am a bit of an online shopping queen but find bikes are one of those things where it's still better to go into the store.

thanks cardicorgi, minx is a nice website but mostly focussed on clothes, so nothing at the moment, as you say.

What you after Dusty? And where are you? Agree a good bike shop is a wonderful thing and also agree that the wonderful world of Minx is a great spot, have more clothes from there than is strictly necessary.

I'm about to go out.....and it's cold and it's rainy and er.... just not that appealing, I hope my gloves have dried on the radiator...
