ITV news saying they've done a deal. No details yet.

Oh God I hope and pray that they have saved Erasmus

Aren't they just trying to agree a trade deal?

Well, apparently the new deal is a FT and Security Agreement.

So why not Erasmus and EHIC? EHIC especially is of great advantage to the UK and for all the EU citizens who come here too.

Peregrina · 24/12/2020 11:46

Don't other non - EU countries pay to opt in to Erasmus? I was thinking of countries like Israel. If so, it would be open to us to pay to opt in too, but of course to be rule takers rather than help make the rules.

I wonder when the Brexiters are going to negotiate an equivalent to Erasmus with the US? No time soon, I would expect.

The longer the delays go on the less I believe there's actually any deal forthcoming.

Mistigri · 24/12/2020 12:09

There is zero chance of Erasmus and EHIC being saved.

This is trade only, and it's a thin trade deal at that (nothing on services).

Glad I did not hold my breath for a result last night.

Not bothering to now either.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 24/12/2020 13:15

Clearly they were nowhere near a deal last night. What bullshit.

JamieLeesCurtains · 24/12/2020 13:21

BBC rolling news just reporting from Brussels that 'the deal' isn't expected any time soon ... But there may be some sort of announcement in a few hours or even maybe tonight.

Sandwiches have been delivered, is the only news.

Great news. Although I’m dreading the way the press will report it - it will all be doom and gloom and slagging off ‘what we didn’t get’. Like they did when Cameron came back in 2015 (or 14) - they slagged it off so much I truly believe that was a catalyst in turning people against the EU. (It wasn’t a great deal to be fair, but I do believe the papers really propelled hatred). Fact is - there are 2 sides to any negotiations and as long as both are getting wins that’s good. And there is no ‘perfect’ deal because even is it was the deal of the bloody century some would disagree!

Peregrina · 24/12/2020 15:37

Don't worry Dee - Johnson has gone full on bombast. Great deal, take control, blah de blah. The reality of what exactly he has agreed will sink in over the next few months.
