Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

@TheDinosaurTrain

Any sign of if / when today’s press conference will happen?
Nope. There was a piece on the BBC about noon asking that question and the reporter said it wasn't clear if or when today there would be any tier announcements.

Still looking out for news on this but nothing yet.

Am going out shortly though.

ToryBrexitannianNationalPlague really showing the World how awesomely masterful we'll be on January 1st - I hope all those silly little foreigners have got their tribute ready to offer us.

HappyWinter · 23/12/2020 13:46

Government don't know how to plan, and have no concept of it. They were only picked for their loyalty to Brexit, so they didn't pick the most qualified to be government ministers. They really scrapped the bottom of the barrel. I'm sure there are much more qualified Conservative MPs out there (most of them seem to be on all-party committees, some of those actually seem to know what they are talking about).

It's a mess. My toddler and PPs dog could have done a better job.

We aren't going to get any more food supplies in before Brexit, when we will then have problems getting them because of Brexit. And those poor drivers are going to be stuck for several more days.

TokyoSushi · 23/12/2020 13:50

Natalie Elphicke (ugh) has just been on TV basically saying that all of this has happened 'because of the French action.'

This is literally, entirely, our own ridiculous fault.

Yes, very quiet on tiers, all a bit odd...

TokyoSushi · 23/12/2020 13:53

Only polite to share a picture of the very good boy that I'm sure could be doing a better job!

🇯🇵 importer concerned this morning that new 🇬🇧🇯🇵 CEPA deal only allows for direct cheese exports. They believe any transhipments for consolidation in France will have to face EU tariffs - before loading. Bonded warehouse ineffective.

TokyoSushi · 23/12/2020 14:00

The announcement thread seems to think there's a BBC news special at 2:45 pm but there's no sign of it on my Sky planner...

We 100% know that they would blame someone else, so why not the Frogs! But good statecraft would avoid these issues or at least minimise them.

Dover vehicles and drivers are small vans and little lorries
White Van Drivers .......

Every flat side road is clogged all the way up to Whitfield

Next month will be fun

TonMoulin · 23/12/2020 14:11

If you look at the number of cases as well as the increase or decrease in cases
www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/where-are-covid-infections-rising-england_uk_5fe2fb40c5b66809cb2ebcba

It makes you wonder why some tier 2 areas are still in tier 2 when they are both way above the numbers in some tier 3 areas and see an exponential increase (when said tier 3 levels are going down).

You also need to wonder why the areas around tier4 are still in tier 2 when one of the main reasons for the tier 4 is how infectious the new strain is there.

The logic would be to put the whole south, incl Cornwall in tier 4 until that strain is under control —that might well not be enough—

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 14:24

TonMoulin
Its not just the change that matters
its the base level
and the demographics of infections
an the number of hospital beds available

BUT
the key problem is that corruption in the handing out of contracts has paralysed the UK response

OchonAgusOchonO · 23/12/2020 14:31

@TokyoSushi - he looks very capable. And gorgeous

TonMoulin · 23/12/2020 14:31

Yes I agree re base of infection.

Where I am, in tier 3, our base level of infection is lower than many tier 2.
Our rate is going down. Theirs is up.

I’m not actually advocating for us to go down to tier 2. I’m saying that from government numbers, those tier 2 should have moved to tier 3 a while ago.
Number of hospital beds... are you saying that there are less beds available in the north vs South? Can’t believe this could be possible . Even though, patients could be moved to places where beds are available just like they do for many other illnesses.

Basically even taking Everything into account this doesn’t add up.

Salvation Army is helping the drivers in Kent too. Thank goodness. I hope some of the drivers remember help from the ordinary people of Britain even while being fucked over by our government. We have to recognise that democracy is more of a real thing in Europe though, and they may hold us all culpable for our government.

What are those lorry cabs like, can they keep warm? All we need is for the temperature to drop. If there is one fatality caused by this the consequences will fly out of hand very quickly.

Meanwhile Blair is still talking to us, and demonstrating a certain grasp of logistics, whatever his faults. news.sky.com/story/covid-19-tony-blair-suggests-using-up-uk-vaccine-stock-on-first-doses-and-prioritising-spreading-students-12171116

Dontlickthetrolley · 23/12/2020 14:43

We're a tier 2 surrounded by Tiers 3 and 4 and lots of complaints tier 4 are visiting the local retail parks. Fully expecting to be Tier 4 by Saturday.

This is what I've heard in full:

Tier 3 to Tier 4:

Essex [remaining areas]
Surrey [remaining areas]
Oxfordshire

Tier 2 to Tier 4:

Suffolk
Hampshire
West and East Sussex

Tier 2 to Tier 3

Northampton
Warrington
Cheshire East
Cheshire West
Chester

Tier 1 to Tier 2:

Cornwall^

Steven Swinford is usually right, doesn't say from when...

Meanwhile, Zahawi used a personal Zoom account for a briefing and MP's are locked out of it due to the 100-person limit.

There is, however, no limit to the gvmt's ineptitude.

Pepperwort · 23/12/2020 14:52

The contrast on the Sky headlines between Blair suggesting ideas and our current PM overruling watchdog to put his crony in the Lords is quite something. I do hope Johnson is currently too busy doing something useful to be aware of it.

"

It depends if they're set up for long distance driving. If they are, they'll have a proper sleeping cabin, cooking facility (microwave, possibly grill) and they're warm.
DF and DB were both distance lorry drivers in their time and even when my dad did his stint years ago, he'd be snowed in, but snug.

Those that aren't, e.g. van drivers, I think probably not Sad
