Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Thanks Red! What's all this speculation on the 'Boris Announcement' thread being driven by the Fail that T4 for most of us is being announced tomorrow to start on Boxing Day...

Zebracat · 22/12/2020 21:24

Well. Happy Christmas, one and all. And however shit it is, at least I’m not a Polish lorry driver stuck in Kent.

Helocariad · 22/12/2020 21:25

Hi everyone, sometime lurker to this thread, but thought I'd pmk. Am wondering if this Dover debacle is going to speed up a deal, scupper it or make no difference at all.

Thanks Red! What's all this speculation on the 'Boris Announcement' thread being driven by the Fail that T4 for most of us is being announced tomorrow to start on Boxing Day...

Pretty much being repeated by every newspaper from fail to ft im afraid Tokyo. Looks pretty much a done deal.

From the scraps ive read today the cabinet meeting on Saturday discussed putting the whole country into t4 immediately. Gove wanted to but he was opposed by chief whip Mark Spencer and Gavin Williamson (the old chief whip) which suggests considerable opposition within the party ranks to the idea.

Im not quite sure about the order of this but apparently the midlands was discussed again today in a gold command meeting and escaped T4 again. There is talk of another gold command meeting for the NE tomorrow which is on similar lines. Andy Burnham wasn't aware of one for the North West (but i certainly have my suspicions on that score - though most of G Manchester is look ok at the moment but T3 clearly isnt working again).

It does look a lot like the only thing left is another lockdown. And given the November lite one didn't work in the SE and London it does leave me wondering how long T4 is going to last in current state.

North West leaders have been saying tonight not to meet anyone indoors for Christmas even though you are allowed to, so im left wondering whether T4 will come into effect before or after 25th now... (it will create outrage and chaos if they cancel tomorrow as lots of people will be without Christmas dinner).

But yes. Air of inevitably about an announcement tomorrow.

Front pages due in about 20mins...

VDL must be spitting bullets - now the Commission has had to agree that all EU Member States can act in their own National Interests in regards to the UK and their Borders. Rather than Acting as a Unified Bloc. Ooops.

J'adore Macron - I've yet to meet the Perfect Person - so I appreciate his imperfections very much, I've plenty of my own.

Of course the main concern is the welfare of the Drivers 'trapped' by circumstance and they should be the main concern; their loads next as the good people of Kent can eat Langoustines rather than they rot in Lorries I suggest.

Of course when this current debacle is soon evaluated it'll put the UK in quite a good light - for 'calling' the new variant first, swiftly followed by International Abnegation. No wonder Wuhan and China didn't let anyone know in good time.

Still, Macron 'jumped the gun' I think, without consulting VDL, and scuppered the 'in faith' and 'goodwill' perspective that the EU had nailed it's petard to re Brexit.

Ooops.

Happy Christmas all.

I wasn’t going to have a Christmas tree as I was going to family in London - can’t do that now, so I got a tree. Not the best picture but it does look very pretty, and I’m glad I got it.

PMK thanks for the thread, poem, analysis etc, Feels like someone’s cursed the country ‘interesting times’!

RedToothBrush · 22/12/2020 21:45

Also given that Nicola leads the way and is talking about reducing the definition of essential shops and removing hardware and garden centres from the list... I shall be off to make sure i have enough potting compost first thing tomorrow. I am not repeating that mistake again. The only foot i put wrong in Feb was not having enough to last me til May...

Argh! I don't think even this government could cancel Christmas Day now, or actually it'll be on 23rd, but yes, 'Have your Christmas Day and then you're done' seems like it's going to be the new fresh hell.

bornatXmastobequiet · 22/12/2020 21:49

There are explicit provisions for individual member states to temporarily introduce border controls, and no good reason for the EU to act as one entity with regard to the UK at the present time.

Are you willing to stake £50 on that? I'm not.

We have a food pickup at 7.30am tomorrow. And actual dinner to pick up on Thursday. Thursday may be the interesting one....

Everyone is going to go into meltdown tomorrow aren't they?

think I might get pissed.

HateIsNotGood · 22/12/2020 22:04

Yes of course provision for EU Nation states to preserve/protect their own Borders is lawful and allowed for within EU legislation.

Just the timing for 'isolating' the UK for identifying a very infectious variant of CV19, before any confirmation of the variant's origin, does alter the Brexit Negs a bit. Anyways France has come up with some ideas about how they will 'help' get the Flow going. Nice of them.

Poor Fecking Lorry Drivers is mostly what I think.
