Brexit

What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?

I was a remain voter, and voted tactically against the Tories. I lost.

But onwards and upwards! We’re getting Brexit in January, like it or not, so I was just wondering what everyone was looking forward to the most?

I asked on a different pro-Brexit thread but nobody gave me an answer.

For me it’s the 350 million to the NHS with no trade deals with Trump. Or the continuing Peace in NI with no messing around with the GFA. Or the trade deals we’ve been promised without any reduction in standards.

I’m so ready to be convinced of how brilliant Brexit will be! Let me hear your positives, please Flowers

I blame US horror films for that Wink

lonelyplanetmum · 21/12/2019 11:24

It's all very confusing.

If we went to all this hassle to get Americans to start making us three pin plug electric toothbrushes and then they don't charge in uk bathrooms. .... I do wonder if it will be worth it.

JassyRadlett · 21/12/2019 11:24

My husband is convinced that it’s reasonable and plugs in bathrooms would lead to an outbreak of death by electrocution.

I delight in pointing out sockets in bathrooms in countries with similar voltage when we travel, and then looking up their accident rates.

JassyRadlett · 21/12/2019 11:27

And my bread totally fits in my toaster, so count me as doubly confused.

It’s Hovis and everything.

lonelyplanetmum · 21/12/2019 11:32

Should I change my two hole bathroom sockets ready for three pin on 1 Feb? Also do we have to pay to convert our bathroom sockets or will there be a government grant. It's so confusing.

Also what size is US bread. Bigger presumably due to the extra hormones? Do I need a bigger toaster?

Soooo confused now.

AuldAlliance · 21/12/2019 11:38

People are looking forward to leaving the EU because they can't fit their bread in their toaster and think things will change?

Christ. I knew things were bad, but this...

CactusAndCacti · 21/12/2019 11:46

My bread doesn't fit in my toaster, it hangs out the top, we have a 4 slice so sometimes you can lie it down.

It is a tragedy, though I barely have warm bread as toast so not too big an issue - hence voting to remain.

lonelyplanetmum · 21/12/2019 12:00

At least it's a concrete plan, a tangible benefit.

MysteryTripAgain · 21/12/2019 12:02

MysteryTripAgain, it means we’ve bought more from them than they’ve bought from us

If you spend more than you earn will you not eventually go bankrupt?

MysteryTripAgain · 21/12/2019 12:05

Also demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of what we got for £50 million

Flawed logic. If paying in to the EU is a gain then by definition all those members who take out (18 out of 28) from the EU should be worse off. Are they worse off?

HateIsNotGood · 21/12/2019 12:09

I'm pleased that so many are finding the humour in my post, just to clarify - I am not suggesting that my post is in relation to any EU regs concerning electric sockets (and light switches btw) in bathrooms. Nor even the 2 pin safety sockets in bathrooms (I don't have one of those in mine), just it would be nice to be able to use these items without having to also buy a plug attachment - just saying.

I too now have a toaster that takes all bread sizes - but that's because I made sure I did after having a toaster that didn't, when I either had to modify a regular slice of bread or stop and turn midway through the toasting the process.

Just sayin.....

MysteryTripAgain · 21/12/2019 12:15

or perhaps they just chose to ignore the facts?

The facts presented by project fear persons such as the treasury, Camer Moron and Osborne were all lies;

The loss of 500,000 to 800,000 jobs just by voting to leave never happened.

The house price crash never happened

GDP drop of 6% never happened

Hence three years later after all the remain supporter forecast of guaranteed bankruptcy, death from starvation and lack of drugs never happened.

Hence leavers did not change their minds. So Anna Sourby and the other leave = instant death preachers need to crawl away in shame.

Jason118 · 21/12/2019 12:45

I see mystery is back with a myriad of string vest arguments. Bostik or UHU?

ListeningQuietly · 21/12/2019 12:55

just it would be nice to be able to use these items without having to also buy a plug attachment
Sri Lanka is the place to go then
their sockets (well the ones in most hotels) take all four of the main types of plug Grin

Voila212 · 21/12/2019 12:57

I'm confused do the EU have regulations on the size of bread 🍞or is it the toaster that will change after Brexit???

AuldAlliance · 21/12/2019 12:58

Or does the UK have its own bread regulations, just as it drives on the left (ironically enough)?

I have to say, this slice size thing is a whole new issue that I was blithely unaware of until now.

Voila212 · 21/12/2019 13:04

Me too, I don't remember it being mentioned pre vote but maybe it explains why leave won, that and bendy 🍌. I know here in Ireland it's hit it miss depending on the brand, some fit perfectly others unfortunately don't and what's really annoying is when the bread that usually fits but then doesn't. Didn't realise it was the EU fault. I'll have to write a letter.

HateIsNotGood · 21/12/2019 13:09

No I don't think there are Bread Regs in regards to size, but I've found there are different sliced loaf sizes depending on where you live, there's a pref for a more squared, slightly smaller size on the Continent (and in the US too if I recall correctly). Whereas in Scotland theres a particular taller, slimmer size of loaf - at least there used to be, it's been awhile since I've been there.

Of course all of this used to be irrelevant when most of as used to toast our bread under the grill.

Happy to hear of any other bread, toaster, small appliance findings

ListeningQuietly · 21/12/2019 13:10

Naughty Sainsburys selling dozens of different shapes and sizes of bread
that will have to stop after Brexit Xmas Grin

AuldAlliance · 21/12/2019 13:12

Well, that's one advantage of food shortages people will surely appreciate.

See, this silver lining approach is fab.

HateIsNotGood · 21/12/2019 13:21

Maybe it's the start of a new British Industry - Brit Toasters and Personal Care Appliance....

I have to say I am rather disappointed that they are re-introducing blue passports, I was rather hoping for a Deep Purple, mixing up the previous red and blue colours.

ContinuityError · 21/12/2019 13:22

But surely the best toast is made over an open fire?

ListeningQuietly · 21/12/2019 13:24

I think we are all rather missing the point on toasters
THIS is the way forwards - fits all sizes Xmas Wink

What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?
