Personally, I think any Speaker would have incurred the ire of the Government because it's his job to uphold our supposedly Parliamentary democracy because it was not only a minority government but it was latterly being led by a wanker (we've not been using that word enough ) loose cannon who had (has ) no regard for the law, let alone Parliament . If there is a government with a working majority (and no unruly rebels), then we'd never notice the Speaker - even Bercow - except for when he called Order and declared "Division!!"

But thank god we did have Bercow - although I don't think that Lindsay Hoyle, the current front runner to replace him, is goi g to be the push over that certain politicians and commentators think he'll be, if we have another hung Parliament

Pmk. We have been partying tonight so missed most of the other thread I think. I briefly checked in around 2.45om but that's the last I saw., Parliament has recorded so I'll watch it with sadness to see Bercow go. No one will even come close to him. He kept the tests in line (which is why the tories hate him).

I've had lots of compliments in RL on my pumpkin. Our guests thought it was ace and the grown ups accompanying their kids trick or treating complimented it too and said it was nice to see EU support 🎃

This year's pumpkin effort chez Prettybird, to put outside to show that guisers are welcome . Thought about doing an EU one but didn't have wee stars, nor any sophisticated carving tools. Plus given that I live in a 70% Remain area, it wouldn't have been very scary
