Fantasy Cabinet-who would you choose?

I'm thinking a GNU (Government of National Union) might be a good thing. It's s new concept to me and I admittedly don't know anything about how that would actually work but it's got me thinking. Who would be in your fantasy cabinet? As this is for fun you can choose people from outside the UK and they don't need to be actual politicians.

So far I've decided on

Donald Tusk
Leo Varadker
Lady Hale
Joanna Cherry
Anna Soubry
Ian Blackford
And of course, John Bercow

No idea who I'd have in which role but they are people I have respect for and admire their passion or diplomacy and care for the people.

If we're having dead people, then Mandela to try to heal the schisms. If they have to be living, then Archbishop Tutu, who chair the Truth & Reconciliation Committee in post apartheid SA.

I would include Nicola Sturgeon but not Alex Salmond

Hillary Benn, Dominic Grieve, Joanna Cherry, Keir Starmer would also make valuable contributions.

Margaret Thatcher did irreparable damage but my god she'd never have stood for any of the nonsense of the past 3.5 years. She had balls of steel. Or should that be iron? I was born in 76 and sheltered from politics in the main so the ins and outs of her reign aren't something I know much about but I remember her iron will, her passion, and her balls. And the arguments with Neil kinnock, the miners' strikes, and talking about the Cold War and Gorbachev. I was just a child but she left an impression of being a force to be reckoned with.

Thatcher always had huge majorities, she never had to manage a minority government and get shit done, which is pretty much impossible in the UK. I also cant forget the sense of despair about having her in power and her unbending inability to listen or to care about anyone except people she considered part of her tribe - her biggest similarity to TM. Her time, thank the Lord, is over.

So: John Smith, PM. Roy Jenkins as Chancellor. Ruth Davidson as Foreign Secretary. Kelly Holmes as Minister for Defence. Sharron Davies as Minister for Sport. In the Lords, Michael Rosen as Chief Rabbi and Dame Cicely Saunders as Archbishop of Canterbury. A cross party select committee to deliver Brexit chaired by Ken clarke, reporting to the Speaker, Emily Maitlis.

TemporaryPermanent · 25/09/2019 22:11

Dammit! White privilege all over that. Lucky it's not up to me I guess.

Apileofballyhoo · 26/09/2019 19:51

I quite like Sylvia Hermon.
