If I get caught speeding I'll just put my foot down further

It wasnt found illigal - no law was broken.

Mistigri · 24/09/2019 11:53

It was found to be unlawful and parliament was never prorogued.

It seems to me that the verdict was written so as it make it impossible for him to just prorogue again.

Its not about Brexit
Its not about Boris
its about the fact that the Government is selected from a sitting House of Commons
if there is no sitting House of Commons, there is no government

this is a massive step in the right direction for the UK

Next week will be interesting
I predict we'll have a GE date set by Friday

OP posts:
prettybird · 27/09/2019 20:27

Not sure about that Confused. A GE date would now be after the 31st October (requires a minimum of 25 working days) and it would means that Parliament would automatically be dissolved for those 25 days. Shock

So unless and until an extension has been asked for, and agreed by, the EU, a GE can't be called. However, a VONC with an agreed plan for a successor GNU might succeed. It looks like that possibility is getting stronger.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 20:34

I think we're tipping towards a GNU.

Lib Dem members are mostly saying that Jo needs to just hold her nose and agree to Corbyn if that's what's necessary.

StealthPolarBear · 27/09/2019 20:41

A gnu? Not the animal surely

Government of National Unity. Cross party majority to govern.

ListeningQuietly · 27/09/2019 20:52

How could a GNU follow through with its name
other than by simultaneously revoking A50 while saying they have left with no deal
because that would allow everybody to think they had succeeded
with no empirical evidence in either direction
a good thing in my book

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 20:58

That would be hilarious. I don't know why BoZo hasn't already thought of it!

ListeningQuietly · 27/09/2019 21:06

Fluffy
If only I was joking.
It the News said that there had been a "No Deal Brexit" how would you know?
especially if there was still food in the shops
If the News said that A50 had been revoked, how would you know ?
As the Brexit vote was over 3 years ago so the limbo is indefinite already

prettybird · 27/09/2019 21:49

By "Government of National Unity", I'm not including the far right party now known as the Conservatives, they're beyond redemption although it might include some "reasonable" Conservatives that no longer have the whip - like Grieve or Clarke (hoe times have changed that I look kindly upon Clarke Shock)

IF one was formed - on a temporary basis - it would be able to ask the EU for an extension on the basis that a GE was going to be held as soon as possible after the extension was agreed.

I'd trust that to happen more than the opposition parties trusted BJ to hold an election before 31 October when he tried to get approval to over-ride the FTPA (quite rightly, they didn't believe him).

Not saying it would happen yet as the various opposition parties are still too distrustful of each other. But they need to get their act together in the face of Cummings' cunning - and ruthless - plan(s).
