This will be interesting to watch!

bellini you are just making no sense now though.

A ‘special economic area’ is a solution that could prevent the backstop being invoked.

It’s isn't the fucking backstop itself.

If NI stays in the SM and CU because no technological solution can be found in time, that's a backstop solution. And a part of the UK in a separate situation to the rest of the UK - that's is NI in the CU and the SM - is a special economic area.

Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 13:52

The idea of anything Brexit that isn't no Deal obviously terrifies you.

And this is utter hog wash

Anything other than no deal Brexit certainly doesn’t ‘terrify’ me. I just don’t think it’s going to work because this has caused too much division.

Having said that, I do still think that even though no deal is needed, Johnson is going to bottle out of it with a fudge on the WA

You are a nihilist.

It’s a solution that means no other backstop is required.

Just like having a functioning technological border would be a solution that meant no other back stop is required.

The fact is neither are possible in practice.

You are a nihilist.

Clearly your new favourite word 🤔

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 13:56

Then we might as well go straight into a special economic area solution for NI. And avoid No Deal. But you would rather chaos and mayhem so you won't compromise.

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 13:57

I have other words for people who wish No Deal on this country.

Songsofexperience · 22/08/2019 13:57

NI in the CU and SM would mean two completely different countries though, wouldn't it? For one, it would mean FOM with the rest of the EU in NI and therefore different immigration laws. Can it work without full independence?

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:00

"Can it work without full independence?"
I presume you mean reunification and not independence.
If the EU are up for it. And they are. Why not.

Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 14:00

bellini my whole point here is it’s not about me compromising.

You are going around touting ‘your’ solution as if, with enough support, you can make it happen

You can’t and the only people who can, won’t

There are plenty of other compromises, not least on our red lines, but they won’t happen either,

Songsofexperience · 22/08/2019 14:00

I personally can't it how it can end without a referendum on Irish unification.

Songsofexperience · 22/08/2019 14:00

*can't see how

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:00

That's the beauty of a special economic zone. You can do all kinds of fudge in it.

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:01

A referendum is in the GFA. What are you scared of?

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:03

I'm not going on about "my" solution. A tapping error made it my rather than the.

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:06

"You can’t and the only people who can, won’t"
Last time I checked that was the UK government followed by the UK Parliament. In other words, people you can write to and lobby. They may ignore it but at least you tried.

Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 14:06

It wasn’t a typo, you’ve referred to it frequently as ‘my idea’, ‘my suggestion’ etc. You post about it so often it’s impossible not to notice.

It’s not your idea. It’s been tried before and it failed.

Even if everyone you spoke to wanted it, you can’t make it happen.

And the Tories won’t make it happen

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:07

Tried by whom? When? Look, I don't mind looking like a stupid arse but at least I tried.
Can't say the same about you.

Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 14:11

FFS bellini TM tried to push it through but the DUP wouldn’t support it so she had to backdown.

Did you really miss that?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:12

Of course they didn't support it. They want to destroy GFA. But how many MPs want Brexit more than they care about the DUP?

bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:14

TM tried to push through WA. This is WA minus all the UK entirely as rule taker stuff.

Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 14:14

We are going round in circles here.

The Tories tried this, the DUP wouldn’t support it so it failed.

They will not try again because if they lose the support of the DUP they lose power.

There’s nothing there that's difficult to understand.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 22/08/2019 14:15

TM tried to push through WA

She also tried to push through exactly what you are talking about.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 22/08/2019 14:17

What you don't seem to get is that it has never been tested in Parliament. And although it might lose the DUP and ERG, it might be something that Brexshiteer Labour MPs or MPs that are just sick of this bloody mess could live with.
Legislation is not always opposed by the Opposition. Or don't you realise that?
