Is it bad for our nation ?
Or good?
As we all know since last month.. the Value of Pound Sterling is going down.

Roll call; Australia, Malaysia (?), Iraq. All countries that are far away. Like Really far away. Trying to fake some kind of groundswell of UK No Dealing and egging suckers here on.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 10:42

I think the ROI thing was an error caused by more than one person operating that account.

As far as I can tell, without being a tax expert, Iraq isn't a tax haven - it imposed income tax on residence. There are some exceptions (mainly military and military contractors who one assumes pay tax to their own state). So I consider it quite unlikely that this individual is actually in Iraq.

prettybird · 12/08/2019 10:48

He is also a tax evader if he doesn't pay income tax from his work in Iraq, yet lives there Hmm

TheElementsSong · 12/08/2019 10:49

I think the ROI thing was an error caused by more than one person operating that account.

I’m waiting for a multitude of the regular Leavers to turn up and explain that everybody knows that ROI most commonly stands for Republic of Iraq, and always has done, only weird post elite traitorous Remoaners would think it means something as unlikely as Ireland, even though that particular poster was happily and repeatedly using it to mean Ireland all over these threads, etc.

Or actually I’m waiting for Leaver selective blindness, sudden occupation elsewhere, and general tumbleweed. Just like whenever there’s an outbreak of honesty blood-and-soil xenophobia.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 10:52

If you take at face value what is posted on here, a lot of these Brexiters are serial electoral fraudsters too.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 10:54

They are also curiously poor at remembering personal details posted from their account (and often very prickly when asked about them).

Basilpots · 12/08/2019 10:55

Bellini we are a melting pot of multiculturalism !

Basilpots · 12/08/2019 10:57

Actually our ‘regular’ leaver posters are pretty good sorts I’m thinking Lou and How.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 10:59

Yes absolutely there are some genuine people posting in defence of leave here.

TheElementsSong · 12/08/2019 11:03

Actually our ‘regular’ leaver posters are pretty good sorts I’m thinking Lou and How.

Oh yes, I don’t dispute that, just noting a general curious blindness or absence in very particular circumstances even when they’re active on the same thread. Pure coincidence I’m sure.

Mamamia456 · 12/08/2019 11:08

Jason118 - where did I say "that people being poorer would be great fun".

Not sure how you came to that conclusion by me saying I thought swede was part of most people's Sunday roast.

Mamamia456 · 12/08/2019 11:14

You have to bear in mind that anyone can pretend to be anyone they want to on line, lie about what job they do, how many children they have, where they live etc. Best to just take everything with a pinch of salt and not get worked up by your what anyone says. There are genuine posters but others just like winding people up.

Basilpots · 12/08/2019 11:18

elements I knew you weren’t and it’s unfortunate that genuine posters have any of their arguments undermined by others with less a reasoned approach who seem to exist just to stir up confrontation and attempt to derail.

Misti multiple posters would explain the ROI character who seemed to be arguing both for and against the same thing at some points !!!

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 11:31

I think there were some gaps in the weekend shift handover ;)

Basilpots · 12/08/2019 11:32

Grin Misti

Expat Oil workers get exemption as oil extraction is in Iraq's national interests. Loss of income tax is nothing compared to oil revenue when plants are producing between 500,000 BOPD on a bad day and 1,500,000 BOPD on a good day even at today's depressed Oil prices.
Also seen as a compensation for the danger

Not a Tax haven like the Channel islands where money can be deposited and no tax on interest.

NosyBe2006 · 12/08/2019 12:08

Many Oil expats use abbreviations

KSA - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
UAE - United Arab Emirates
ROK - Republic of Kazakhstan
ROI - Republic of Iraq

RuggerHug · 12/08/2019 12:15

Yeah but in a Brexit chat with a lot of mentions of the British imposed border in Ireland it would be more obvious that ROI meant Republic of Ireland. HTH.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 12:20

Expat Oil workers get exemption

While this sounds credible on the face of it, I can find no evidence for it actually being true (rather than a made up fact to cover up a continuity screw up).

jasjas1973 · 12/08/2019 12:21

Sorry my brother has worked for many multinational companies all over the world, including Iraq, been in Saudi for many years now, he has never used KSA or ROI and none of his co workers do, i just messaged him!

Its SA and ROI is Republic of Ireland, Iraq is Iraq.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 12:24

Jaja, ask your brother about income tax exemption in Iraq too ;)

Cyclemad222 · 12/08/2019 12:25

Brexit was sold on basis of £350m a week for NHS and cutting immigration.

They've quietly admitted neither of those things will happen.

It's all a big wheeze to escape EU laws in tax evasion. There is no upside, unless you count brexiters having to face up to their own stupidity.

jasjas1973 · 12/08/2019 12:33

His company took tax from his basic pay, bonuses and expenses were paid in US $, offshore and not taxable, it was about 6 years ago, so things may have changed.

TheElementsSong · 12/08/2019 12:59

rather than a made up fact to cover up a continuity screw up

Made up or not, it doesn't matter. The purpose is a general ink-cloud of obfuscation, in which UnBeLeavers have to be tied up in responding to bollocks; whilst True BeLeavers will either swallow all of it (ROI meaning Iraq, and the moon being made of green cheese, so long as it's being said by a self-identified fellow BeLeaver), or the reasonable BeLeavers will mysteriously be unable to see any of these bollock-full posts.

NosyBe2006 · 12/08/2019 13:10

Jaja, ask your brother about income tax exemption in Iraq too

The main Operators in Iraq are

BP - Rumaila
ENI - Zubar
Lukoil - West Qurna
Shell - Majnoon

Call their HR depts if you wish.
