Bank Holiday on November 1

Apparently a new bank holiday is being planned for Nov 1 , first to let Brexit day 2019 be a day when all can re-set and get used to the new way of doing things.

But secondly it's a great new day - perhaps it can become an annual tradition - celebrated as the UK's new Independence Day! Champagne 🍾 🇬🇧

It still isn't a Bank Holiday. Or a "new" independence day. Some might celebrate, I don't think it will be in the millions as most people will just be getting on with life much like you recommend.

Even where I live, where many people are quite openly and proudly Leave, even the last council election had so many UKIP signs around (though those UKIP politicians that ran are now all Brexit Party), not even the local groups which are practically run by those politicians and groups and mention any events or anything remotely related to Brexit, there hasn't been any big parties or street events discussed.

PortiaCastis · 09/08/2019 13:15

Brexit parties in Oz are hilarious and surely the unicorns are invited

PortiaCastis · 09/08/2019 13:17

they're going to be fuckin disappointed then

Yep!

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 09/08/2019 13:25

"I wasn‘t really sure before but now I am 100% convinced that Janista is in fact a comedy act!"

But, being a Crim, is unfortunately not very funny...

Tengel · 09/08/2019 13:28

I've actually heard of a few planning Brexit parties on 31st. Plenty of fireworks that time of year I guess.

Parker231 · 09/08/2019 13:50

@Janista - you haven’t a clue what you are talking about and as you don’t even live in the UK, Brexit really has nothing to do with you.

I’m not British but have lived here since I was five and if (big if) Brexit happens it’s looking to ruin many lives.

Motherof3Dragons · 09/08/2019 14:11

@DorisDaysDadsDogsDead
„But, being a Crim, is unfortunately not very funny...“

I am sorry, but can you elaborate this?

Daddybegood · 09/08/2019 14:25

Celebrate! .....Really!
If it's a crash out no deal, should we celebrate adding 10-60% tarriffs on goods and services?
Celebrate.... not only losing free trade with the EU but also trade deals with Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, NZ etc?
Do we celebrate sterling falling, a possible run on the banks, people dying from shortages of medicines, food shortages...Please excuse me if I don't celebrate too wildly.....but then again I am not the type to laugh raucously at funerals, that would be seen as insensitive, a bit stupid and rude

Coppersulphate · 09/08/2019 14:30

I agree. A bank holiday would be good. It could be National Independence Day. We have a party planned

BrexitBingoGenerator · 09/08/2019 14:38

Genuinely Interested to know what people are planning to do at these brexit date parties?

Are you going to eat tinned sardines and crack out Vera Lynn songs?

bellinisurge · 09/08/2019 14:51

I think @Coppersulphate and @Janista should ha e a party together. @Janista will be in NY rather than Australia apparently. I'm sure she'd stump up for a ticket for you @Coppersulphate .

Jason118 · 09/08/2019 14:54

One way, maybe?Grin

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 09/08/2019 15:00

Janista is a wind-up merchant who is best ignored.

The BrexitCult members can celebrate on 31st Oct if they like. The party atmosphere will be short-lived and the hangover will be brutal, though.

LadyGAgain · 09/08/2019 15:00

Bore off @Janista

Caucasianchalkcircles · 09/08/2019 15:19

Yeah it's funny how some of the most prolific brexiteers on mn live abroad isn't it ?Hmm

LadyGAgain · 09/08/2019 15:44

It really is. Especially how invested they are in how great Brexit is given it will affect them NOT ONE BIT.

Songsofexperience · 09/08/2019 21:44

a day when all can re-set and get used to the new way of doing things.

Because a single day will be enough to get used to 40 years worth of legal agreements and alignment of norms coming to an abrupt end.
🤣

You can't be real.

Tengel · 10/08/2019 07:16

Public hol on 1 Nov is a great idea, me and my family and friends can't wait to celebrate finally brexiting and leaving the Eu 🇬🇧

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/08/2019 07:22

They used to plan parties in the Brexit Arms....just saying.

What became of the Brexit Arms landlady?

greathat · 10/08/2019 07:28

Its a completely shit situation only celebrated by the ignorant and some freak in Australia apparently

FishesaPlenty · 10/08/2019 08:16

Yeah it's funny how some of the most prolific brexiteers on mn live abroad isn't it ?

Oh, I assumed they were all just claiming to be abroad to explain their odd shift patterns on MN.

Roussette · 10/08/2019 08:31

There is no public holiday on 1st November. Gove considered closing the Banks to prevent No Deal chaos. That is all.

Anyone who wants to have a party celebrating Brexit... feel free. It'll be the best time you'll have before reality bites. Because, as yet, I've not heard of one good thing that will happen after 31st Oct. Not one.

On a lighter note, this is amusing...

bellinisurge · 10/08/2019 08:32

The Rochdale Herald is regularly good for a laugh. Grin

Tengel · 10/08/2019 09:25

No surprise that the abusive posts on this thread have been deleted. The OP dared to have a view of welcoming and celebrating brexit and was subjected to insults. It's a real shame.

I for one will be enjoying Brexit day and have even booked the day off work to throw a party for colleagues and friends. I know many others who are also planning the same.

Of course if you're living in an echo chamber you'll be surprised by this, but it is true

Parker231 · 10/08/2019 09:30

@Tengel - what will you be celebrating?
