Live in NI, voted to remain. A friend stated last week that they voted leave- they had to as farmers (as are my family who didn't!).

This is just terrible.

Boris was just asked directly about holding back on a FTA with Brazil, until Brazil changes it's ways - he said too many people want to stop free trade & he didn't want anything to interfere with free trade.

If that is what he has said then he is going to have to make a choice, Climate or FTA with Brazil. As the EU have found out you can’t have your cake and eat it.

I hope the EU deal falls flat on its face and it serves as a lesson to all (inc UK) that some things are more valuable than money.

Currently we have no deal with Brazil and I hope it stays that way. I will judge and act accordingly if and when that time comes.

From the horses mouth Jas

Chancellor Angela Merkel has made clear she shares Macron's concern about the fires. But her government said in an emailed response Saturday to a query about the threat to the Mercosur deal that its trade section "includes an ambitious sustainability chapter with binding rules on climate protection," in which both sides committed to implementing the Paris climate accord

It added: "the non-conclusion (of the deal) is therefore from our point of view not the appropriate response to what is currently happening in Brazil."

The EU will i hope, change elements of the Mercosur deal, obv keeping within the Paris accord is important, as is protecting grass feed european beef, with its relatively low carbon footprint.

If they don't, shame on them and i hope it is voted down, however, Tusk has just said the FTA cannot go ahead unless Brazil's changes, he also has offered money to Brazil.

From BJs answer, he has already chosen FTA above all else.

A strong UK in the EU can influence these things.
