Where will funding come from when we leave the EU?

I was googling a local tourist attraction yesterday and noticed the following:

The new Treak Cliff Cavern Interpretation Centre is part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development - to upgrade the visitor offer, by providing new toilets, heritage and interpretation centre. Project reference number: 101006.


and it got me wondering where the deficit will come from when (if?) we leave the EU?

So many places of interest and industries benefit from EU funding and this is just one example.

Someone I know works as a project manager whose job it is to secure funding from the EU.

What other resources can we tap for funds once out of the bloc?

From what’s left over from the £££ Boris has promised in tax cuts and sweeteners to northern England

I have noticed a number of leave voters (including a sheep and dairy farm and someone who works in the automotive supply chain) starting to worry.

If things like this were a priority for our government, then surely they would have paid for it themselves.

It could be argued that the money saved from not paying into EU could be used, but that money won't be available for years. Many councils certainly can't afford it. Also after 10 years of austerity, there will be many more pressing things. Then, tax cuts for the rich as promised by Boris Johnson.

Keeping it purely logical, if the UK is a net contributor to the EU, and then is no longer making those contributions, the money saved should replace any EU grants.

I think we can safely say much of it won’t be replaced by central government funding. If it was a priority they’d likely have funded it themselves in the first place.

We are one of the few funders of the EU. We are the second biggest contributor to the Eu after Germany.

Ha ha, as if a Tory government will fund any of these things. If there is anything left of the 39 billion (and they actually do have to pay it, despite thinking they don't), it will go on tax cuts for business.

I suppose you could say, as we are net contributors already to the EU, we will just use our own money instead of giving it to the EU to distribute for us.

Of course with all the Brexit chaos and falling pound and crashing economy, we may not have that money anyway!

But where does the state cash come from?

Taxes. Who pays that? Businesses and employees.

So, if the trend for business to close down or transfer business to the EU to maintain access continues, where will that cash come from?

@Janista when did you last pay UK tax. Or like other overseas shit stirrers, do you have property here?

Our local young carers service is funded by the EU. If that funding goes it will mean nine job losses, but most importantly zero support for the children who act as carers to parents and siblings with disabilities. There's definitely no money from the council budgets to fund the service, and there's no more funding for CAMHS for when these children inevitably break down.

So what the fuck happens to them?

No apologies for swearing. That service is a lifeline for the most vulnerable people.

Just watching the news and they are of course talking about brexit. Currently talking about Wales and how Welsh farming gets 300 million from the EU. That's a lot of money to find from somewhere else.

Yes the money we contribute to the EU goes to the EU budget and a portion comes back to us in multiple funding areas.
However a portion also goes to maintain the hundreds of standards and co-ordination bodies - which, after brexit, we will have to establish ourselves
Initial setup of these bodies will cost more than ongoing so the equivalent funds just won't be available - and the economies of scale won't be there.

Our EU contribution is ~0.7% of our gdp - we've already dropped >2% since the vote, the consensus is that we'll take further hits.

Add that lot up, throw in Boris promises and there won't be any money to replace the EU funds - keep your eyes open for the media and social media explaining why all these projects were impinging on UK sovereignty etc so we should be happy they have stopped.

As if this Tory government will replace any of the EU funding to anywhere near the same level. Deluded. Of course they won't. Look at what they've done to the local councils.

I can't see it either. I think so many things will be affected. A beef farmer on the news yesterday said he was going to have to find an alternative use for his land as he'd be out of business. Lots of places and attractions re robe EU funding and I imagine some will close sooner or later. Admission prices will go up to try and make up some short fall but with prices rising in general then people won't have money for leisure activities as much as they do now.

Recall Cornwall's worried little face the day after it discovered where huge swathes of its finding actually came from, its MPs demanding the government would promise the same cash, post Brexit.

OK, we won't be able to afford to take our families, and the cash the big attractions make will end up in foreign consortia hands (and the tax via tax havens elsewhere), but height, that's sovrignity (sic) for you.

Yes, and how likely do you think that will be? Hint: it won't happen.

Germany is the biggest contributer to EU funds. We are the second. So the "Cliff Cavern Interpretation Centre" you visited was paid for by German and UK taxpayers and the other net contributers who are also paying for millions of other projects and subsidies all over 28 EU countries. The same taxpayers are also paying for a massive bureaucracy to administer all this and decide what is worthy.
When we leave we will not have to pay for the tourist attractions in the other 27 cointries. We will just have to run and pay for our own tourist attractions just as countries like Japan, Australia and NZ do. If that prospect terrifies you then I have no further comment.

Time will tell I guess.
