So what 'level' would you propose? A world regime like Russia, China, or N Korea?
The EU as a bloc of primarily Western Europeans but have expanded to the East to try and improve the livelihoods of Latvians, Romanians etc, encouraged by previous UK governments I would add.
The EU as a 'body' is not really set up as a military force in the way that the separate countries within it are. If, say the Russians were to reinvade Poland, then Poland can request assistance from other EU countries, be it diplomatic pressure from Brussels, or materials or military personnel etc.

I am one of the baby boomer generation, and I think those that think their pensions will be protected could well find that they are deluding themselves. They might not be the first to be cut, but cuts will come.

I am not at all surprised by Leave UK voters wanting the break up of the UK - we have seen posters on here not realising that NI is part of the UK.

I explained that no pacemakers are made in the UK so there could be similar problems, they shrugged and said, "Well I don't need one so I don't care".

This is someone who's business is gel nails, something that is a luxury so wil be imparcted if we are all paying more for food and utilities.

The attitude of I don't care It won't affect me makes me so sad, what the hell has happened to this country that no one gives a shit about anything outside of their bubble. A lot of people blame consumer society and advance in technology for this but in my experience it's not the young tech savvy younger generation that think like this it's the pension age generation, who dont care (and before anyone objects this is my experience)

I don't want to tar every one with the same brush as I know many very decent Boomers (not least my own parents!). However I think a large portion of that generation took the 60s/70s hedonism as an excuse for unfettered selfishness without consideration for anyone or anything else.
These people are basically human locusts. Sadly.

I agree re baby boomer generation, my personal experience of leavers is Tory voting PIL, work colleagues and clients of this generation. They are all very much in the I'm alright Jack bubble having benefited from huge house price rises, inheritances and generous pensions. They simply have no comprehension of how difficult it is for the younger generations in today's world trying to make ends meet. That they are willing to inflict harm through economic turmoil on their children and grandchildren is truly despicable.

I saw this the other day and was truly . I cannot believe people of my generation are so unbelievably selfish, narrow minded and stupid!

Not all baby boomers have generous pensions - it's mostly men who do. Women tended to miss out, and when we started working lots of better paid areas of work were effectively closed to us.

I believe also that joining the then Common Market meant that different wage rates for men and women had to go. Up to then it was quite common to pay a woman half that of a man. Well of course, the BBC still do that so we still have a long way to go.

What I don't get is why are we having this countdown to the new PM ? Brexit was one vote and that's it. A general election is one vote and that's it. This carry on is a vote then a debate then a vote then a debate then a vote then a debate..... And on it goes.
It's like a continuous advert for the tory party. All they are doing is putting off sorting or discussing Brexit. There's nothing about what will happen, only the latest countdown. Don't the party have a policy on what will happen, does the PM get to make what they want happen??
It's way beyond a total joke now.

And another thing, are the media ever going to ask anyone outside the shires of England their opinions on this?
All I see are English people being asked their opinions? What about Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland? I've hardly seen anyone from outside England being asked.. As for young people being asked their opinion it almost never happens.

From the minute the result of the referendum was announced in 2016, many people realised the enormity of the problem of actually disentangling the UK from the EU. There are of course vested interests in taking discussions in opposing directions (disaster capitalism being one) but no one is able to close Pandora's box, so it is one diversion tactic after another to avoid having to make a decision.
