Why is getting Brexit more important than having a competent government/leader?

I can’t understand. I’ll be upfront and same I’m an ardent remainer but trying to think objectively, I can’t understand how a party with only one policy, no serving MPs, no-one with any experience of leading a government, running a ministerial department can possibly be topping the opinion polls for the next election. I mean seriously?! Farage has tried and failed multiple times to become an MP in the UK. His attendance record as an MEP was abysmal. His previous political party, UKIP failed and then slipped into an openly racist shit show (from which he sidled off) What on earth qualifies him to PM?

A protest vote for them at the MEP elections is one thing (potentially not that damaging if we do leave the EU as they’d have no jobs) but actually having them in UK parliament? I don’t understand! Please do explain, someone, ANYONE!

I didn't know that Sadiq Khan had jumped ship and was now standing for the Tory leadership.

If it collapsed like the Garden Bridge and he aspired to be party Leader, or PM then yes, of course he should be held to account, but he isn't aspiring to be Leader/PM.

The idea of a Garden Bridge, or finding a disused railway and turning it into a linear park isn't in itself bad, it's the way Johnson has a blatant disregard for anything or anyone but Boris.

"Are you suggesting if we leave the EU we will be forced to sell our NHS.

If I ring my doctor, will they say "sorry we have been sold, try the local witch doctor". WTF does this remainer nonsense actually mean. Remainers should be banned from posting."

No, it's all fiiiiiiine 😂😂😂😂😂😂

He has proposed another bridge!

Err, no, Sadiq Khan did not propose a new bridge.

A crossing at Rotherhithe was first proposed in 2008 by Sustrans and was included in the 2014 National Infrastructure plan.

An interesting proposal made by Sustrans, and worth looking at in more detail, would be a new pedestrian and cycle bridge from Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf – which could be called the Brunel Bridge in tribute to one of the great figures in the history of UK infrastructure

Remind me, who was London Mayor in 2014?

ContinuityError · 05/06/2019 07:47

Para 5.16 if anyone is interested:

5.16 TfL has consulted recently on options for a new river crossing in East London, with options including crossings at Woolwich, Gallions Reach and Belvedere. An interesting proposal ...

Nigel Farage and Boris could be trusted to ensure that we are out of the EU by the end of October.
There would be no more "revoke", or PV, or remain.
We would no longer be a member of the EU.
Of course we would then spend some time negotiating a trade deal with them, but at least we would no longer be a member .

If the US wanted to sell us titanium hips or medicines or hospital equipment that was of excellent quality and cost the NHS less money then are you all saying that we shouldn't buy it because it is from America?
A while ago you were all panicking that we were all going to die because we would not be able to get medicines from the EU. Well we may be able to get them from America. Will you refuse them?

lonelyplanetmum · 05/06/2019 09:44

Nigel Farage and Boris could be trusted

lonelyplanetmum · 05/06/2019 09:44

Really?!

Coppersulphate is speaking as someone with no clue whatsoever.
When Trump is saying 'great deals' he means great deals for the USA. They also come with conditions that EVERYTHING benefits the USA.
If a manufacturer in the UK sells goods to the USA, it has to provide after sales back up for a couple of years at least, holding stocks of replacement parts etc.

PortiaCastis · 05/06/2019 09:54

I'm feckin seething with trump and, how dare trump mention our NHS how bloody dare he as it's our NHS we pay for it and he can just FOTTFSOF grrrr I bet he and farridge were cooking up a plan to destroy it yesterday. The pair of them along with boris need sorting out before they do any more damage to our Country.
We need a plan to get rid of divisive idiots !!

It won’t cost the UK less money.

Drug costs in the UK (and in Europe) are generally much lower than in the USA thanks to the way the NHS purchasing works and Trump sees that as the USA subsidising European health care. He wants to ramp up drug prices in the UK to claw back money for the US big pharma (who, surprise, surprise) tend to big political donors.

It’s no secret.

{We need a plan to get rid of divisive idiots !!}

Sadly they are not idiots, they are clever and very nasty.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 05/06/2019 10:51

You'd think people would realise that privitisation isn't for the benefit of the end user when they see the price of their train tickets or realise granny can't afford the heating bill.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/06/2019 11:01

In never ceases to amaze me about just how stupid some people are

Coppersulphate · 05/06/2019 18:13

Portia, do you not think your post is divisive.

bellinisurge · 05/06/2019 19:09

How do you feel expressing frustration with Trump and those who are his British lickspittles is divisive? @Coppersulphate

Mistigri · 05/06/2019 19:25

Personally I'm looking forward to Boris meeting his Waterloo.

As for division, I sincerely hope to never to be on the same side of any divide as copper and her Brexiter pals, because if I am I will be on the wrong side.

I'm afraid that what the referendum did to the country cannot easily be undone.

PortiaCastis · 05/06/2019 21:08

No my post is not divisive it's straight to the point and says keep your filthy paws off our NHS
