Please

Why?
It seemed long on hot air from what I heard.

ChangeMyWorld · 21/05/2019 17:24

Why? Is it not positive if there's a possibility of a referendum? Surely if they reject it no deal is almost a certainty...

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 17:29

I couldn't work out whether her speech was a promise or a threat - don't pass this deal and you will have a GE/Referendum.

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 17:32

I can't see Corbyn wanting to accept this. He wants a GE, where he will sweep all before him! Maybe.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/05/2019 17:34

Its a potential trap. There is no guarantee the vote on a ref will succeed and they will already have committed to the WA. That is my understanding at least. May does not want a ref she wants the WA to succeed to secure her "legacy".

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 17:35

{I can't see Corbyn wanting to accept this. He wants a GE, where he will sweep all before him! }

And end up almost exactly where May is now.
To a degree, the EU don't care what the decision is, as long as the WA is signed. So far apart from Theresa, no one seems to have acknowledged this fact.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/05/2019 17:43

Its why there should be a ref WA vs remain. Take it out of MP's hands. May admitted she didn't realise how difficult Brexit would be. This is the level of stupidity we are dealing with. On those grounds a bold leader would just revoke already - admit defeat and an ill-advised referendum in the first place..

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 17:46

May admitted she didn't realise how difficult Brexit would be.

Cough, cough. We did on these threads. In fact you would think a modicum of common sense would have told anyone that if it took Greenland with a population of 50,000, only 1 main industry, and negotiating with either nine or ten countries three years, that it would take the UK considerably longer. Still May has made it abundantly clear that she is no student of history.

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 17:48

..ten countries, three years.....

MockerstheFeManist · 21/05/2019 17:58

The Moggsters don't like it.
The loyalists don't like it.
Labour don't like it.
Sharif, he don't like it.....

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 18:51

And do what ?

StealthPolarBear · 21/05/2019 19:00

Because she has said if they do not there will be no brexit

OP posts:
frumpety · 21/05/2019 19:06

Oh that would be a shame, imagine there's no Brexit, it's easy if you try Smile

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:37

I repeat, and do what?

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:38

Again, reject the bill and ......?

StealthPolarBear · 21/05/2019 19:41

Revoke article 50

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:44

Trouble is @StealthPolarBear , rejecting the deal just heads us towards No Deal and a No Deal Tory PM withbullshit about a managed no deal and, as I heard IDS saying, "it isn't no deal , it's lots of little deals and a big Free Trade Deal with the EU that will obviously follow" (I paraphrase a bit).

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/05/2019 19:48

Remainers need to hold their ground and not bottle it, caving in to the WA in which nobody even knows what future trade agreements will look like. If a party is daft enough to go through with no deal, they are finished. Revoke. All versions of Brexit are crap.

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 19:48

{it's lots of little deals and a big Free Trade Deal with the EU that will obviously follow"}

But only after the UK has signed the WA. I doubt IDS slipped that one in.

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 19:50

It is doubtful that May has the bottle but if she really meant 'This deal' Which is presumably WA with a few bits added to the side to please Westminster (although failing), then her other option was no Brexit.

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 19:52

On the other hand, having just read the comments section in the Fail, I don't think the EU wants those knobheads.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:52

I know that people don't want to accept any version of Brexit. I disagree albeit with a heavy heart. I don't want to play chicken on this. I fear No Deal and I don't think it is off the table.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/05/2019 19:55

It’s been a game of chicken for 3 years. Nobody thought U.K. would be contesting Eu elections but here we are. Defeating Brexit was always going to be a long game.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:57

TM will resign if it fails. She will be replaced by a hardliners which is what the voting Tory associations want. There will be stuff in the media about how no deal won't be so baaad. And before you know it, it's 1 November.
At least the WAB going through will make it that bit harder for a hardliner to get their way by 31 October.

bellinisurge · 21/05/2019 19:59

And the poison that Revoke would cause. As bad as No Deal only without the financial crisis.
