I'm playing Brexit chicken by ordering from the UK

I've ordered from Snag Tights because one of my friends swears by them and I have the sort of apple-shaped tummy that makes regular tights roll down at the waist. I'm in Ireland, they are in the UK. Will they make it here before Friday? I don't know. If they don't, will the UK still be part of the EU on Friday? I don't know.

Nip+Fab are having a half-price sale. Should I risk it? Probably. I live on the edge. Fearless. Grin

Ha, I ordered from Lisa Angel yesterday, paid in sterling and all. Will serve me right if it doesn't arrive but hoping so since I got the shipped email!

MissConductUS · 09/04/2019 19:43

I'm with you. I'm going to pick up a packet of English Muffins at the store on Friday, if they still have them. Then I'm going to watch Foyle's War on Amazon Video.

Grin

It'll arrive - the dramatic tension comes from whether or not I'll have to pay duty/tax.

This is what passes for daring excitement when you're over 50. Grin

Ticklingcheese · 09/04/2019 20:38

Eerr - love 🙄

TangyToms · 09/04/2019 20:42

Dh ordered his melatonin tablets last night, from USA...50/50 whether we'll ever get them😏

rslsys · 09/04/2019 20:52

I ordered a piece of electrical equipment at 7:35pm yesterday. It arrived at 12:30pm today - shipped from Germany via Amazon Prime.

MissConductUS · 09/04/2019 21:18

Tangy, fear not. The USA will come through for your DH. Smile

Why, if you don’t mind me being nosey? He shouldn’t need to, surely (presumably they’re for diabetes?) My husband gets his on prescription from the GP, no problems yet and the pharmacy isn’t expecting any.
Would be very dubious about ordering on the net: can you be sure of the source?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/04/2019 21:38

Melatonin is for regulating sleep cycle, Metformin might be what you're thinking of Langrish.

I've had Melatonin seized by whatever the agency is that checks for drugs, but only one shipment in about 10 and the next one came through unchecked. They also kept the soap that was in the same order as the Melatonin, which I was more upset about tbh.

Ah: my bad! Completely misread that. Yes, I read metformin: had me worried there, our GP assured us that’s one of the medications he knows there are mass stockpiles of. Insulin, now that’s a different matter 😱

TangyToms · 09/04/2019 22:00

Yeah, melatonin is because he works shifts, including nights so it helps him re -set his messed up body clock, if he needs to. He gets them from i-herb, you can buy melatonin in pharmacies in US.

MissConductUS · 09/04/2019 22:28

and grocery stores. I sometimes get mine from amazon.

If the excrement truly hits the fan, I have a room to rent in NY as DS is off at uni. Cat lovers only, but I promise to buy in only organic chicken. Grin

Mistigri · 10/04/2019 05:01

OP you can buy melatonin in France, might create fewer shipping hassles than importing from the US, at least until Brexit happens.

polarpig · 10/04/2019 05:14

You lot are rank amateurs, I'm playing Brexit chicken by leaving for the EU two hours after we are supposed to leave the EU.

That really made me laugh out loud. Grin

Love it @polarpig . In a not loving it way. Grin

polarpig · 10/04/2019 07:58

On the bright side, we are leaving in the dead of the night so I can sneak in if the border controls have already gone up Grin

I hope so, I'll be in the company of 60 children.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/04/2019 11:14

Shock That'll be a long wait with 60 children if you have to go through non-EU passport control. That queue is always much slower, and then if you add in all the UK passport holders too it can only get worse.

My Mum is taking DD away on holiday on Friday, Mum has an Irish passport but DD has a UK one so who knows what queue they'll be in on the way back into the country.

It's going to be FINE. Just FINE.
I'm also taking some trained pigs to provide aerobatic entertainment while we wait.

whenthewhistleblows · 10/04/2019 12:22

I’m sure I’ve bought melatonin from uk based websites in the past - are they not available here any more?

Sorry to derail your thread OP!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/04/2019 12:46

I buy melatonin from Biovea.com, I'm not sure where exactly they are based but the melatonin is always shipped from an EU country where it's available without prescription. As I understand it I am not permitted to import it but it's not a controlled substance (like heroin etc) so I won't be prosecuted, they'll just seize it if it's stopped in transit.

I flew on the day after B-Day (the last one, that didn't happen). Me and @polarpig are well 'ard compared to all of you but I wouldn't bloody do it with 60 kids, I was worried about doing it with one.
