A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

I would advise people not to put too much information about their stockpile on here. Otherwise, if it does go all a over t you could find yourself staring down the barrel of an AK47 held by someone about to remove your stash to feed him/herself.

I stockpiled, then went abroad in mid Feb - we came back at the end of April. My stockpile was/is flipping brilliant, I'm very proud of myself! I'm not working until September, so we've been eating out of the stockpile and only upping our food with fresh fruit and veg. We've eaten all the frozen fruit and veg, but will replace that over the next month or so (still not sure about October, obviously.)

I'm just sorting it out now ready for replacing and updating. There isn't actually much I'd change from a food point of view.. I need to have a think about household things.

We learned a lot about which frozen fruit and veg is the best, it will change our approach to shopping generally I think. Frozen avocado - who knew?!

bellinisurge · 26/05/2019 19:18

@SingleDadReally - gotta find me first Grin

Iambuffy · 27/05/2019 07:35

Hello!
Started stockpiling in June last year so we are slowly starting to use it up and replace.
With the lunatics talking up no deal Brexit again when are you all going to start again?
And thank you for the threads! I was around last year with a different mn nn :)

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2019 07:46

I'm going to wait until there's something substantive from the parties post-elections and see how everything pans out in the leadership elections. I'll re-stock from Aug / September pay day if necessary.

I'm thinking that Labour will potentially have a huge mood swing. The Tories are beyond hope. We just need to see how this translates into Parliament.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/05/2019 07:49

I am keeping current levels. We have been eating a lot up due to dates and if it all goes tits up I will restock.

Cloudtree · 26/06/2019 10:32

Thread is quiet. Other brexit prepping pages/sites are getting panicky as the threat of crashing out looks more likely with Boris as PM.

bellinisurge · 26/06/2019 11:22

Yep. All gone quiet. Hopefully people are looking at their budget and their personal situation carefully. They are also hopefully over the initial barrier of "really? I am supposed to think about this? Are you nuts?" and are drawing their own conclusions. Your conclusions are inevitably different to mine because I am not you. Doesn't mean I won't nick any good ideas you have Grin

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/06/2019 20:07

I am going to be looking for more places to stash chopped tomatoes.they are the basis of so many recipes.

Wondering about getting some tinned potatoes to go in curry recipe. Will try. Rice takes up.less space but curry from tinned ingredients might be a good idea.

Any more good suggestions from the tin can cook book Bellini?

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/06/2019 20:17

Thanks cloudtree, it is really helpful to hear that other people are worried too. Either I am not mad and deluded or we are all mad together.

I am wondering what else I can prepare.

Going to do better at sorting the freezer and using up everything not useful/old or chopped up for last time.

Cloudtree · 27/06/2019 08:04

I have to say I've found the false start quite useful. It's given me time to see what we actually use most frequently from the stockpile.

Top usage - breadmix, corn on the cob, beans. Plus I use more hair conditioner than I thought and we get through deodorant more quickly than I realised.

Ready made crumble mix is a hit and far cheaper than making it due to the price of butter. Pastry mix is ok if you add some salt but I wouldn't choose it over pastry made from scratch.

We only like Moo UHT. Lidl's own has unfortunately had the thumbs down even just in porridge.

I need NOT to stockpile biscuits and chocolate. They just get raided straight away.

Poppiesway1 · 27/06/2019 08:16

My Brexit box is sitting there getting in the way.
It’s full of pasta, rice, cous cous, soups.
We’ve not had pasta in a long time! So I’ll need to start checking dates and swapping!
Has anyone stocked up on sanitary products? (As much I like the idea of a mooncup I can’t even use tampons :( )

Cloudtree · 27/06/2019 08:35

Cous Cous -that's getting used up at a faster pace than expected too.

Cloudtree · 27/06/2019 08:35

I've stocked up on all toiletries. Basically all consumables.

Dontlickthetrolley · 27/06/2019 10:26

Chocolate, biscuits and Crisps will be purchased on 30th October here is it looks like we're definitely crashing out, definitely not before!

@Cloudtree I had the opposite problem, ran out of shower gel really early, but haven't bought any deodorant since March. I'm also impressed I've not bought any loo roll since beginning of April and still have over 30 rolls available!

I'm hoping to get my lost boarded in September which will release a lot of stairagw space in the house as I move everything up a floor!

Dontlickthetrolley · 27/06/2019 10:27

Storage 🤦‍♀️

Dontlickthetrolley · 27/06/2019 10:28

And loft not lost 🙄

gamerchick · 27/06/2019 10:30

I have to say I've found the false start quite useful. It's given me time to see what we actually use most frequently from the stockpile

Definitely this ^^ I had a trial run to run down stores and I definitely dont have enough of some things.

Have enough pasta though Grin

FMFL · 27/06/2019 10:30

Oh wow yeah my stockpile has been so massively depleted (apart from toilet roll, I went nuts)... I think I’ve been lulled into a false sense of security. I need to get back on it.

gamerchick · 27/06/2019 10:51

Definitely didn't have enough toilet roll. 2 1/2 months to get through 90 rolls. Although I have an inkling middle kid snaffled some for his own pad. I'll have to get more than 90 in I think.

FriarTuck · 27/06/2019 10:54

I've enough pasta for the next 2 years I think!! But the biscuits have gone. I'm going to stop shopping now and eat out of the freezer & cupboard over the summer so I can restock in October in case....

Socksontheradiator · 27/06/2019 13:34

We are eating bits of our stash mostly to see what of the tinned stuff is nice to eat. I have found 'Tin Can Cook' very helpful for this. Still buying extra whenever we go shopping. Am also grateful for the false start as prepping didn't occur to me till the beginning of March. I'm seeing it as buying ahead really. (We have also struggled with eating the sweet treats!)

Socksontheradiator · 27/06/2019 13:37

I have stocked up on sanpro. I use cloth pads but adult daughters think this is all nonsense. As do my parents and siblings, so I'm keeping quiet and hoarding for them too! We will have a very cheap year if things don't go tits up in October.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/06/2019 17:38

We're eating through our stockpile still. I'm waiting to see what happens once the new PM is installed (or otherwise) before deciding what to do.

We're about to open the last pack of loo roll, so it's lasting OK!

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/06/2019 18:22

Still got 88or so loo rolls. I have been keeping stocked up with them as I can't be arsed to get them out of the stash.

I bought a head torch as they had some reasonably cheap in Asda.

Still need to sort out reusable sanpro. Then there will be stocking up on Christmas presents.

I bought some Sainsbury's curry today as ds likes it. A good quick tea as well.
