A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

Food Warehouse do Ainsley's spicy couscous, it's really nice as a side or we mix it with tinned sweetcorn and tuna for a main. It's only £6 for a really massive jar.

Moorfields · 18/04/2019 04:34

Why are people donating their stockpiles to the food bank? Surely it makes sense to use up the short date items 1st & rotate with the longer dates. The food will be needed and will save money in the long run if kept & used up.

Alicewond · 18/04/2019 04:40

I have a packet of super noodles if the worst happens, I’m open to sharing

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/04/2019 21:45

This afternoon DD and I went through the food I'd bought her to see what needed eating up this term and what will keep til next. I think she was quite pleased with the treats I'd put in.

It was a bit stressful though as we had to contend with what was either a giant queen wasp or a hornet circling our heads. I had to knock down it's emerging nest. Yikes.

BercowsSilkTie · 18/04/2019 22:01

There's lots of huge wasps or hornets around here at the moment. Totally the wrong time of year for them really as usually more of an August and September occurrence. I hate the things Sad

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/04/2019 09:24

Has it gone? Has it gone?

Not coming out til it has gone.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2019 10:55

I'm a bit worried that when I go up in the loft next I'm going to have to negotiate a massive nest to get to our food.

This was not in the handbook.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/04/2019 13:04

At least no other bastard will be tempted though! #thinkofthepositives #smallmercies

This was not in the handbook.

I continue to be shocked by the fact that there is no handbook. NO advice from the government to the public on the need to prepare for a possible No Deal.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2019 18:23

I'm going to start training my new giant pet/guard hornet Grin

True thethe.

Thanking you! Grin

We've now taken a chicken and some frozen peas from the stash. I'm doing a rolling stock rotation of tea bags and the tuna will last for years, so I'm just buying as needed like I normally would.

I did replace the chicken, however, as they're on offer in Sainsbury's and we had a bonus points voucher too. I'm not saving it until November though!

Potentialmadcatlady · 19/04/2019 18:36

I’m
Really enjoying my stash! Very little shopping is needed except for fresh bread... I was annoyed the other morning when I remembered I had forgotten to get milk for breakfast UNTIL I remembered my uht milk😁👍...I’m using up the shortest dates stuff first and it means I have money for pretty plants for my garden 😁💗

NoWordForFluffy · 19/04/2019 18:43

I spend all of my spare cash on compost and seeds and other garden bits. At least if it is no deal later in the year we should have plenty of fresh veg in the freezer.

bellinisurge · 19/04/2019 18:47

I wonder if a guard wasp would spend all day sleeping with the occasional yell for food

bellinisurge · 19/04/2019 18:48

You need to be her human guard and protect her cat food stockpile thenWink

bellinisurge · 20/04/2019 07:46

I think that's what she has in mind. If she has anything in her lovely tumbleweed mind. And, yes, we have a cat food stockpile Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2019 08:28

aww, lovely moggy :)

bellinisurge · 20/04/2019 08:50

Thank you.

BlackeyedGruesome · 20/04/2019 23:42

Having laughed at the idea of no-one attempting to steal OYBBK's stash due to the guard hornet, I have had to remove 3 wasps, one of them a big fuck off hornet/queen wasp. Two opted to go out the window. The other was buried at sea.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/04/2019 07:56

I've not seen any up this way, thank god. We had one in our hall last autumn, but none since.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2019 08:24

They are taking over! Shock Just you wait Fluffy, they will come for you.

I think it was just a queen wasp if I'm totally honest. Blush We found her dead and she looked a lot smaller and less scary than the pterodactyl we'd appeared to have circling us. Long live the queen. It's a shame, we seem to now have an ant invasion and she could have taken them on.
