A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

No. EU think a no deal Brexit is more likely than before, thus going to add to the forward purchases. We will not know if there is an extension until 2 days before the deadline, which will not be time enough to get organised.

bellinisurge · 03/04/2019 12:40

@SalrycLuxx - I have a Callow dehydrator. I used the highly scientific method of the second cheapest on Amazon with good reviews that I could afford.

hobblingawayslowly · 03/04/2019 12:40

Why would I get rid of my stockpile? The EU has not agreed an extension.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/04/2019 12:44

I used the highly scientific method of the second cheapest on Amazon with good reviews that I could afford.

I use that for many Amazon purchases!

@Bluntness100, until it is definite that no deal is avoided, it would be premature to get rid of the stockpiles. I'm definitely still adding to ours.

I'm really hoping for a deal so that we can eat through it!

BercowsSilkTie · 03/04/2019 13:08

Until things are agreed and as set in stone as they can be I will continue to add the odd thing to my already impressive stash. Tbh it's mainly the amount of chocolate and biscuits that's impressive 😂 I dig into mum's crunchiest last night so had to replace those today. I only had one. I was restrained.

Bluntness100 seems to know more than anyone about this mess though so keep tuned for in the know updates.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/04/2019 13:11

@Bercowssilktie, my stash has loads of treats too. So many I've forgotten what I do have (I'm pretty sure the DC could safely list them, however 😂).

BercowsSilkTie · 03/04/2019 13:15

I've had to put them under dd's bed to avoid eating them. The chewits are all gone now! She doesn't know they are there. Treats are important. If the shit hits then we need something tasty to cheer us up from beans on toast and pasta variations.

Tensixtysix · 03/04/2019 13:17

Still think it's bonkers to stockpile food. Do you all have some issue with not having enough to eat?
We do have farms and food in the UK!

BercowsSilkTie · 03/04/2019 13:18

🙄

downcasteyes · 03/04/2019 13:20

To get rid of my stockpile now, I would have to believe that Theresa May has entered talks with Corbyn in good faith, with a view to finding an actual solution in a spirit of compromise.

This would involve placing trust in a woman who has repeatedly said one thing and done the opposite, and who has shown absolutely no capacity for compromise or skill at negotiation to date.

I am not saying May won't be genuinely looking for compromise. In fact, I desperately hope that she is. I'm just saying that we have no reason whatsoever to trust her.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/04/2019 13:23

Excellent 1066. Are we self sufficient as a country though?

NoWordForFluffy · 03/04/2019 13:25

And even if we are self-sufficient (spoiler: we're not), will no deal lead to sharp price increases? Absolutely it will.

Tensixtysix · 03/04/2019 13:31

Ration cards all round! Sheesh! Project fear has made everyone a scaredy cat!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/04/2019 13:34

Just ignore the person trying to derail us. I have no idea why they do this, we don't need to engage.

I've defrosted our tiny fridge freezer box, so now we have room for ice cream. Brexit or not, summer will come.

BercowsSilkTie · 03/04/2019 13:40

My dd is not impressed we don't have room to stockpile ice cream. I've got her plenty of Philadelphia though. And other dd plenty of Nutella. I wish there was one thing to eat we all loved more or less equally 😩

TheElementsSong · 03/04/2019 13:44

They're probably feeling a bit needy and unloved? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/04/2019 13:48

yeah probably, but we aren't the people to give them solace.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/04/2019 14:00

Kit Kats unite us! Though the kids can't have too much milk chocolate as they only tolerate tiny amounts. Neither is above that step of the milk ladder yet. I do have both dark chocolate and dairy free stuff in the stash though.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/04/2019 14:19

Ah fuck, milk ladder... We kept having to stop due to taking antihistamines.

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/04/2019 14:23

When are you getting in a stock of potatoes etc?

NoWordForFluffy · 03/04/2019 14:26

I got another sack of unwashed ones today.

Everything else fresh I'm going to go late on Fri night if we look to be no dealing!

havingtochangeusernameagain · 03/04/2019 14:34

I have completed my stock pile today. Just need to do a big supermarket shop at the weekend and then hope for the best. Fed up with having to spend extra money preparing but on the plus side from next Saturday I can start eating it, deal or no deal.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 03/04/2019 14:36

Though I don't have any longlife milk. But I really don't like it so I would have to be mega desperate to use it. I'd rather go without, I think.

And I've just remembered water. I might see how the land is lying next week and then order one a Lifestraw but don't want to spend the money if I don't need to.

gamerchick · 03/04/2019 14:39

Why would you get rid of a stockpile? It's stuff you'll eat anyway. Just cheaper food bills for a bit.

bellinisurge · 03/04/2019 14:41

@havingtochangeusernameagain - a lifestraw, while a great thing for general preppers like me, is not essential. There are plenty of budget friendly ways to purify water in the unlikely event it's needed post Brexit.
Filter through an old T-shirt to get out any big bits, put water on a rolling boil for a minute.
PITA but much cheaper.
