Is anyone hopeful that the Independent Group will stop Brexit?

Also that they form a party and there is a party to vote for.
What happens if independent s get more vote than a party??

I voted Remain. I don't see any point in trying to force that in the face of the result. As shit as the whole thing was - as it was an advisory referendum- all I want to do now is avoid a no deal. If WA is realistically the only way to do that, I support it. I don't want to leave the E.U. but if we must, we must do it like grown ups. I see nothing good about leaving.

The WA just moves the cliff edge to the end of 2020. It removes the imminent deadline but creates a new one. No way will a deal be in place within 18 months.

If the WA is passed pretty much every scenario is possible in between a crash out at the end of 2020 and permanent transition. What's certain is that passing the WA would be just the start of Brexit, and not the end.

I am ok with WA pushing back a no deal not eliminating it. If we make only 1/3 of the plans we need it is better than what we have now. We are so unready for it now it would be a catastrophe to No Deal now.

I just want WA now. It's a rubbish deal but it's a damn sight better than crashing out.

I can't see this small group being able to stop Brexit, tbh. It's too late.

The majority of people who voted, voted to leave.
You are being extremely arrogant to want to overturn the will of the people. It was an in/out vote and we voted out.

I agree with the PPs on the WA - and I voted Leave. It's a the start of the Brexit transition, which I always thought would take several years anyway. Crashing out is far too risky imo, possibly even stupid.

I'm somewhat heartened that Geoffrey Cox is currently in Brussels heading the UK Brexit team.

No, I don't think the small number of MP 'party-resigners' will stop Brexit but I am interested in a new Party (although I don't join political parties - I'm a Floater).

I would be more interested in zero political parties and a Commons fully made up of Independents who were free to form fluid alliances around single issues. No Whips.

Maybe that's something the UK can work out as we transition/crash out of the EU?

I think the battle to stop Brexit is over. We lost. The battle to stop No Deal is the one we should be focusing on. And if that means WA, then so be it.
I don't want to leave. No one cares. I want to avoid No Deal. I think we can find consensus with sensible Leavers on that. Don't let ERG/UKIP/Brexit Party (ffs) win on their mission to crash us out with No Deal.

If we so desperately need a WA and several years to deconstruct ourselves from the EU..... perhaps that ought to tell you that leaving is bad for the UK ?

TBH i couldn't care less that (in theory) in 25 years time, the UK will be better off out of the EU.... so much globally could happen to make these time scales meaningless.

Cox is a windbag, i've been to his constituent meetings, he talks for 40mins and says nothing.

I don't think the battle to stay in the EU is lost at all and tbh i don't care if we have a no-deal, if the population are prepared to accept this (which they appear to want) then they deserve what they get.

imho the WA is worse in the longer term and thats why, leave or remain, MPs overwhelmingly rejected it.

Obviously leaving is bad for the UK but it is government and opposition policy to do it. Based on an advisory referendum but that's what we have. So we do it the grown up way. Which is WA.
Trying to stop it plays into the hands of the ERG . Which is why it needs to be taken out of their hands. In the absence of a better idea - and there isn't one that isn't Remain- we should accept the WA.

Yep. Like re-building a house a couple of metres back from the condemned cliff edge. It is all shit really. Even the tabloids are cottoning on to 'No Deal'. So it is either a worse deal with Europe than the one we currently have, or 'No Deal' at some stage.
