Well here we are, almost 9 months on from the referendum & A50 is finally set to be triggered this month.
We've had petitions, marches, tantrums & tears, from the hardcore remainers desperately trying to stop the will of the people, but they can't.

So let's get the champagne out of the cellar ready & waiting - this is the last Brexit Arms thread so let's celebrate!

Actually there were very few jumps in 1929. That was an urban myth.

Get the book though - it's a great read - races along - I guarantee you will think of May and friends as you read it.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/03/2017 17:40

The thing is, being ideologically anti-EU does look from the outside like a 'religion'. I can see the attraction of having 'faith'.

Bearbehind · 17/03/2017 17:49

semi you've made my day because I didn't know there was a bear emoji (and I still don't know how to do it)

All I need now is an arse emoji and I can become a symbol, a bit like Prince.

CardinalSin · 17/03/2017 17:50

And like all good successful religions, they don't encourage people to think, nor to look at facts...

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/03/2017 17:56

It's because it has no many of the characteristics of a religion that it is so cohesive (to those who believe it) and divisive and excluding (to those who don't).

The lack of a rational basis for the brexit belief system will make it very difficult to unify the country over this.

Yuval Harari writes about this kind of thing in his amazing book - Sapiens - a brief history of human kind.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/03/2017 17:57

Religion - dogma
Brexit - dogma

All hail St Nigel of Kipper, worship at his altar. After failed elections he will rise again to liberate the oppressed from the liberalism of the EU. The believers will inherit the sovereign lands, where the unicorns roam free. The bible is the Daily Express. Believe. Brexit is a state of mind.

Bearbehind · 17/03/2017 17:59

The lack of a rational basis for the brexit belief system will make it very difficult to unify the country over this.

That's one of the most succinct sentences that sums up how I feel about all this I've read yet.

SemiPermanent · 17/03/2017 18:02

Bear, I just did an actual proper lol 😂

Am now picturing you as a wee Prince, bedecked in purple velvet & flouncy lace cuffs!

I shall just refer to you as 'symbol' from now on! 😂

SemiPermanent · 17/03/2017 18:03
Blush Not a lol at your last post, obvs, the one earlier.
SemiPermanent · 17/03/2017 18:04

Bearbehind · 17/03/2017 18:12

semi that image makes me chuckle too. I love purple! Grin

It is totally pointless arguing over the rest of it- no one is going to change their mind until hindsight comes into play.

The Brexit songs have made me laugh and that's a better state of mind really.

Bearbehind · 17/03/2017 18:12

How do you do the bear emoji?

surferjet · 17/03/2017 18:15

Shall we all hold hands?

The lack of a rational basis for the brexit belief system will make it very difficult to unify the country over this

FYI All leavers do not worship like Farage and not all leavers are ideologically anti-EU.

The EU is a 'club', we have taken a pragmatic decision about membership and are leaving the 'club'. The remain side gave lots of 'rational' reasons for remaining. It turns out most of those reasons were just made up. So in future it makes it harder to believe wild claims of armageddon.

Neither remainers or leavers can give guarantees about what would/will happen if we stay or leave in 10 years time. We have to make a judgement call and I dont hear any facts from remainers explaining why the UK wont flourish.

So I suggest its the lack of a rational reaction from remainers is the reason why it will be difficult to unify the country.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 17/03/2017 19:15

3 million citizens being used as bargaining chips and you want to talk at rationality?

There was nothing pragmatic about the leave campaign. There is nothing pragmatic about hard brexit.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/03/2017 19:34

I think thats a no surfer

Anon1234567890 · 17/03/2017 19:41

We are bargaining chips every time their is an election, trade deal, financial transaction... It is a governments duty to protect its citizens, whether they live here or elsewhere. Why is that irrational?

woman12345 · 17/03/2017 20:31

Shall we all hold hands?
Yeah! On the march tomorrow:

What race are you protesting for/against?

InfiniteSheldon · 17/03/2017 21:12

And you can suggest away if it makes you feel better.
