So what do we think of Angela eagle?

Is she good news?

She seems to be another one who has come from nowhere to take advantage of this brexit catastrophe. Has she been helicoptered in by the blairite centre left? Does she know what she is doing? Do we think she will succeed at ousting Jeremy Corbyn?

I'm off to google her because I really don't know much about her yet...

How Angela Eagle became MP for Wallasey

ManonLescaut · 11/07/2016 01:25

I'm a full Labour Party member and I want a split and a merger with Lib Dems

Me too. Shall we organise it?

Collymollypuff · 11/07/2016 01:53

Bloody hell, LowDudgeon. That article is shocking.

bkgirl · 11/07/2016 02:04

don't like her

Collymollypuff · 11/07/2016 02:14

Presumably once she launches her bid tomorrow, all that stuff about Wallasey will come out. Journos will have to report it.

HanYOLO · 11/07/2016 02:15

I understand that she has done a good job for her constituency. She has been consistently re-elected since 1992, which would suggest that is the case and until her recent involvement with the JC coup she has been well thought of in Merseyside. She's always been ambitious, her timing stinks.

IMO she has no chance of becoming leader - if JC is on the ballot paper, she will lose. If JC is not on the ballot paper she will face another candidate, and those grassroots members who still want to vote will chose pretty much whoever the PLP put up. I am sure there is someone waiting in the wings to do that - could be Owen Smith or could be someone they are still in negotiation with.

If it's true and not just smearing.

Only places I've seen it are that are Corbyn supporting places.

0phelia · 11/07/2016 09:20

Because the Corbyn smear campaign lead by the guardian is all true.

0phelia · 11/07/2016 09:21

The Guardian.

Horrible woman, even her own constituency Labour party can't stand her.

Angela Eagle faces prospect of 'no confidence' vote from constituency Labour party

Beanbag1977 · 11/07/2016 09:33

I think she needs to get a haircut because it looks a bit limp.Margaret Thatcher even though I didn't like her polices, I think her hair made her look strong and authoritative.

Yes let's reduce things to how a woman 'looks' shall we.

Angela Eagle grew up on a council estate, and comes from a disadvantaged background. She knows what it's like to go without. Jeremy Corbyn grew up in a 7-room mansion, and went to a posh public school. He's more interested in scoring ideological points than in ensuring that the Labour Party are electable. I loved her in the debates, very clear, concise answers. Explaining what the impact of leaving would be for workers in the most deprived areas. JC, on the other hand, sabotaged the Remain campaign. I would happily vote for a Labour Party led by her (although I usually vote Lib Dem).

Beanbag1977 · 11/07/2016 09:43

I would say the same about a male politician.I think the way you present yourself is important if you are hoping to lead the country and inspire confidence

HanYOLO · 11/07/2016 10:23

Her local constituency has elected her repeatedly, Auti. The no confidence vote from her CLP is entirely to do with the leadership challenge to Corbyn, which many Labour Members do not support.

I'm amazed at some of the comments on here that attack her female qualities, her sexuality and fgs her appearance, as reasons why she can't lead. She will not get my vote in the leadership contest because of the stupendously idiotic timing and manner of the attempted coup, and because of her inconsistent voting record.

But if it was a choice between her and Andrea Leadsom's terrifying politics, homophobia and embellished cv for PM I would prefer Eagle any day.

Itinerary · 11/07/2016 10:42

Angela with Maggie's hair? That's a scary thought...

lljkk · 11/07/2016 11:43

I like most of what AE says, but she has had moments of bad performance (you can easily find Youtube clips mocking AE). So she needs to step up her presentation by a lot to match T-May.

I joined the Labour party temporarily last yr, & wanted Kendal. I dislike Corbyn more every day.

LowDudgeon · 11/07/2016 12:29

missmoon JC sabotaged the Remain campaign? Single-handedly? Wow. If he's that powerful you'd think they'd all be right behind him.

This coup has been planned almost from the day he was elected leader. The referendum had nothing to do with it.

LowDudgeon · 11/07/2016 12:39

This is a very interesting & fair article about her

She's ok but a bit average. It's true that she tended to perform better at PMQs than Corbyn, but PMQs are a fraction of the job. She's not a leader - less "electable" than Corbyn IMO.

There isn't an obvious leader amongst them atm, or not one prepared to stick their neck out at this stage.

MiaowJario · 11/07/2016 13:45

I alternate between referring her in my head as "Patsy Eagle" and "Not Eagle Eyed Enough to spot Blair's illegal war".

Really, how can anyone who voted for that now claim to be fit to scrutinise anything?
