NEW Sainsburys own brand eco nappies

We usually use Naturebaby nappies but the other week Sainsburys only had tiny ones. This week they have all been replaced by Sainsburys own brand eco nappies. They are 2 for £8 on special introductory offer so got some to try as had to opt for emergency Huggies from local Co-op (yes, I felt dirty & it felt ridiculous that they were going into degradable nappy sacks). Anyway, quite impressed. Softer than Naturebabys so easier to wrap round wriggling DD. Seem to be able to hold a HUGE amount of wee without leaking or going lumpy. Cute insect pictures which DD likes. Down side - only 60% biodegradable rather than the 80% NB.

They have stopped stocking Nature baby. I resent being told what I should buy from a supermarket which is supposed to stock a range of products. So I shop at Waitrose instead.

DS2 has had a nature baby nappy at night until this weekend. The Eco has leaked each night from the front of the codpiece (sorry can't think of a better description) he now has nappy rash having not had nappy rash at all in the last 2 years.
Supermarkets are supposed to be about choice not stocking other brands to your own doesn't provide the choice I want.

Sorry that you had bad experience of them. I am pleased to see a supermarket bothering to do an own brand eco nappy but I do also object to the fact that they are now no longer stocking Naturebaby so no choice anymore esp when not as eco. They were the only supermarket that stocked any eco ones at all (no Waitrose round here). Some of the Boots stores seem to stock NB but not our local one even though we have a reputation for being a bit of an eco hippy lot. Maybe they think those of us who care will just get Moltex from the vegan supermarket but we never liked them and are expensive. It was really handy to stock up when doing a supermarket run for catfood & frozen stuff as we try to get most fruit, veg, meat, fish etc from local shops. Also good way to put us over the £50 barrier each time the petrol discount offer was on.

I bought the Ecos from Sainsburys one night when all washables were in the wash.
At 1 am, I cursed them - the sticky tabs don't just lift up - you have to peel off a stiff bit of plastic with a fingernail. And then they don't hold down even for as long as it took to get A dressed.

It wasn't just one nappy, it was all of them.
After the third full clothes change, I stomped up to Sainsburys and got a refund (replaced with bog-standard Sainsburys nappies which work fine). I'm only using a few disposables so don't really care about degradability.

dd, only 16 weeks has been wet 2 mornings in a row,

they are soft, but they are also size 1-2 so big for a little baby,

bring back naturecare/baby ones

I'm all in favour of eco nappies and usually buy bambo nature ones online, but we were caught short last week so I grabbed sainsbos own ones. I was not impressed that they appeared to be degrading....while they were still on my DD!! We weren't impressed with them at all

and as an aside no nappy is any more degradable than the next one if it goes into a landfill site, so I wouldn't stress about putting huggies into your degradable bags if you then toss 'em in the wheelie bin. The main point of eco nappies is in the manufacturing of them and the reduction in chemicals rather than the dipsosing of them.

Well done, notnowbernard, you did exactly what I've been meaning to do. I resent the fact that yet again Sainsbury's is sucking dry the creative power of a small company by trialling their ethical products and then replacing them with their own version (of inferior quality).

I shall definitely write to Sainsbury's, AND send a copy of my email to Nature Baby.

I can't stand the Sainsbury's eco nappies. Leak terribly, and it doesn't matter how tight the waistband is the leg holes are too big and poo shoots straight out (and take my word for it - I actually watched it happen!)
On the other hand, when I phoned Sainsbury customer care line the chap was very apologetic and has sent me a £15 giftcard for my inconveinience (sp?)

Yes, we had a poo tumble out of a Sainsbury's nappy just last week as well.

I've just sent a stern email to Sainsbury's saying I was moving to Waitrose rather than buy their crap nappies. Much rather go the extra distance and stock up while I'm there. Sainsbury's version are just a false economy as they're so crap.

They did the same thing with their organic foods - they tried out some brands first, then when they saw there was money in it they cut out the small companies and made their own version. The blood-sucking vampires .

they sent me £15 in vouchers after I found some fried bread in a portion of sag aloo that was labelled "suitable for coeliacs". I was horrified at their lack of concern over what for some coeliacs would be a major health upset.

Guess what? You can have them delivered by Boots online (or lots of other shops). Look here and click on 'where to buy'! Fabulous!

It's really annoying when you find a nappy that suits your baby and then the supermarket you use just decides not to stock it and sell you their own label which is not what you want. I know that they do it all the time but consumer preference should count for something and I am going to follow it up.

I had the loveliest email response from Naty today; they've offered to send me vouchers as a thank-you. Ahhh, bless em. I'll be even more likely to keep buying their nappies now!

Interesting, I was dismayed to find out when placing an online order re no Nature Babies. We've bought one pack of Sainsburys but I would have preferred to be told about them and given a chance to try without having the usual brand taken away. Our local Sainsburys had 2 size 4 packs of Nature Babies the other night which dp got us. Otherwise we're going to have to go to Mothercare or Boots in Wood Green (less convenient/en route than Sainsburys for dp in the week and us both at weekends, and shorter opening hours) or Waitrose (a bit out of the way) and we can't carry our regular online order of 8 packs (part of a monthly shop) at once by public transport/on foot. Also, Mothercare never had more than 2 packets in ds's size. And we'll need more small ones in January/early Feb.

I have complained to Sainsers about the Eco nappies, too. Not only are they shite but they also contain a lower percentage of biodegradable material than the Nature Baby ones. Really disappointed in them.

Horton, your eco credentials are very impressive - I didn't notice that at all about the Sains nappies!

Ooh, Im on the other side with this one. I really like and prefer the Sainsburys one, although obviously not that they have removed choice and are not as biodegradable.

The Sainsburys one seem to be a better fit and hold tons of wee. I really dont like to see a good company like Nature Babies get squeezed out of the market. My local Co-op was the only place for miles around that stocked them then stopped suddenly.
