NEW Sainsburys own brand eco nappies

We usually use Naturebaby nappies but the other week Sainsburys only had tiny ones. This week they have all been replaced by Sainsburys own brand eco nappies. They are 2 for £8 on special introductory offer so got some to try as had to opt for emergency Huggies from local Co-op (yes, I felt dirty & it felt ridiculous that they were going into degradable nappy sacks). Anyway, quite impressed. Softer than Naturebabys so easier to wrap round wriggling DD. Seem to be able to hold a HUGE amount of wee without leaking or going lumpy. Cute insect pictures which DD likes. Down side - only 60% biodegradable rather than the 80% NB.

Oops, just checked my email to Sains and it looks like my memory has failed me - I did use the words 'cheap and tacky' . Still, they are.

Haha, what did you write? I was very restrained and concentrated on how disappointed I was that Sainsburys wasn't offering its customers a decent choice and stressed the biodegradable thing (although I did point out that my DD has been wet through to her vest every morning in the Eco ones which never happened with Nature Baby). Should have been more inflammatory as I haven't even had a response, never mind a voucher!

Well they took their time replying to me, though the response was polite.

I said something which amounted to criticism of their man-eating-giant attitude to small, creative producers - i.e. that they borrow their products to see how they sell and then plagiarise like mad so that they can maximise their profits. Needless to say, they didn't respond to this part of my email!

Bide your time, and if by Tuesday you've heard nothing I'd send them a really angry 'do you not care about your customers?' email!

STILL no email. Anyone want to help me compose a stinker to send to customer services? Did everyone else get a reply?

I've also complained to Sainsburys (and every one I know). Awful, awful, awful.

They sell the naturecare nappies at Boots and Mothercare.

They still have them in my local Sainsbury's but no size 2 so we're going straight to 3.

P.S. I've just emailed them to see why they don't sell flushable liners for reuseable nappies.

I find Sains Eco fine for the day but started having leaks at night when my daughter reached 2. Now use NB pullups at night to quarantee no washing the nxt day! When i ran out i tried huggies dry nights which were just as crap as Sains Eco. I recomm ordering NB online from Boots as they deliver free(over £40) or free to your nearest store (under £40). Also if you wait for buy 2for £10 offer & hav an advantage card ur quids in. Lets hope Boots continues to fly the green flag!! I also buy Sains Eco sensitive wipes in bulk when they hav 1/2 price off & boots own degradable sacks work out cheapest if you buy online.

For us their is no question. Nappies must be "eco". So after using up the inevitable "gifts" of baby shower non-eco nappies, we tried the Waitrose ones at first which we found terrible. Then we tried Sainsbury's back in early 2010 and we instantly became outspoken, unpaid ambassadors for those amazing bits of kit. Then a couple of weeks ago we noticed the packaging had changed but bought them anyway. The difference was chalk and cheese. I say as a bit of a pun because the old ones used to have a lovely chalky-natural, VERY ABSORBENT feel about them. The new ones are completely different and we now have leakages on clothes and bedding and have to change twice as often. They don't fit as well either.

We have written to Sainsbury's and they are looking into it. By why change something so good? We now don't know what to use but will definitely stick to eco. It is a no-brainer and I am afraid we simply can't understand why anybody would not use eco nappies. Not using eco nappies shows a flagrant disregard for the environment. Anybody else disappointed with the new version?
