Nazism and German cars

I'm looking at buying a VW ID3 but I feel a bit odd about buying from a brand founded by the Nazis. I know there are all sorts of companies with murky origins and business practices but people were enslaved, tortured and killed working to make the badge I'd have on my car.

I did a bit of research and apparently VW have done a lot of work to support and make reparations to Holocaust survivors. But...

What do you think?

How do you feel about Japanese cars OP?

Do you see a baby on a bayonet whenever a Nissan drives past you?

My Grandad really liked my German DH but I wouldn’t have dared introduce him to him if he had been Japanese. He had been in a camp and then slave labour on the railway in Burma. He would never have bought anything Japanese or been in the same room as a Japanese person, he had severe PTSD

Just avoid German goods altogether.

Why have you dug up a zombie thread just to add something inane?

Its because of the Nazis (and in particular (V2) rocket inventor Wernher von Braun) that we got to the moon.

The V2 rocket was the first artificial object to travel into space in 1944. After the war the yanks nicked all these German engineers (via Operation Paperclip) for NASA. More from that BBC source:

"The V-2 was a quantum leap of technological change. We got to the Moon using V-2 technology but this was technology that was developed with massive resources, including some particularly grim ones. The V-2 programme was hugely expensive in terms of lives, with the Nazis using slave labour to manufacture these rockets".

Point being you don't discard good stuff that originate from bad times. Anyone like Fanta? Invented by nazis.

On a broader point, the Germans rank as having among the best (twice in BBC polls as the best) influence on the world today. The Germans own their past, it's well covered in schools, and there are signposts of where such and such took place, which makes them so much better than other nations in terms of humility and tolerance of others. Look at the shameless yank, presidential hopeful DeSantis, trying to wipe out all black history in Florida schools...and just scroll down the traumatic history of natives (seminoles) and black people in that state:

V2: The Nazi rocket that launched the space age

It is 70 years since the first V2 rocket attack on London. Hitler’s terror weapon failed to win Germany the war – but it did help put man on the Moon.
