Vegetarian/vegan and keeping carnivorous pets

Is it being hypocritical to be a vegetarian or vegan for moral reasons while also keeping, say, a cat or dog for your own enjoyment? Unless you let them go wild and hunt their own food you'd need to buy them meat which conforms to lower standards than meat for human consumption.

Any thoughts?

Very interesting thread and I don't want to create a new one.
I am a fairly new cat owner. I am starting to feel rather hypocritical about the amounts of meat my cat consumes. I am leaning towards vegetarism myself due to eco / world saving reasons and I have been eating very little meat for a long while now. I didn't think it will bother me - but it does - that I am complementing to the meat consumption because I chose to have a cat. The cat itself is lovely. But I would much prefer a pet that eats veggies, grain etc, or at least mixed food. I don't know what to do. I feel quite uncomfortable.

P.S. The amounts of cat litter, not only mine but of all cat owners also bother me. I didn't realize this until I became a cat owner. I also think it is pretty cruel to toilet train a cat. So I am stuck.

Im vegan. My rescue cat is a 15 year old carnivore. She eats meat. I hate it. But you can't have everything
