My dad has died. He was 87 and in a nursing home. He was a grumpy git at times but my grumpy git. I just really miss him. I’m pleased he’s at peace now but I still can’t believe he’s gone.
I just wanted to acknowledge him. RIP Dad. Love you xxx

It’s always sad. I hope the good and perhaps less grumpy memories come back soon to comfort you 💐

Catarinabella · 07/07/2026 15:07

Sympathies.

flatwhiteinabucket · 07/07/2026 15:37

My deepest condolences 🙏 I lost my 'glass half empty' dad 18 months ago.

It's a funny thing, I was just thinking about him a few minutes ago, and how it was a privilege to know him, and then your thread came along, OP. Good old (grumpy) dads. 💐

Aw, even in their 80s when we know they've had a good long life and are often driving us crazy - we love them and miss them. Raising a virtual glass to your grumpy old man!

FadedRed · 07/07/2026 15:45

Sorry for your loss 💐, Davina, it doesn’t matter what age (or how grumpy) he was still your dad and you will miss him.
My dad died over thirty years ago, but I still think of him, but it stopped hurting some years ago, and it will with you too, in time.

Yogafiend · 07/07/2026 15:46

So sorry for your loss.

SylvanMoon · 07/07/2026 17:19

So sorry for your loss, grumpy old dad or not, he was your dad.

Davina1234 · 07/07/2026 17:25

Thank you everyone. I’ve been a bit low today as trying to choose songs and poems for his funeral service.
He had a great life, he was an extremely intelligent man and a wonderful character who said what he thought regardless!! It used to get him into trouble but he didn’t care.
It won’t be the same without him x

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm currently trying to juggle care for my old dad with a very demanding full time job.

So sorry for your loss Davina

He sounds like he was a character.
I lost my grumpy old git 3.5 years ago.
We were still doing things that we think would make him laugh.

namechange62 · 07/07/2026 19:00

Aww. My dad was a Grumpy man too. He was a very complex man but I loved him and I know he loved his DC.. He used to tell me I could have the top brick off the chimney. My DC called him Grumpy Granddad..
He's been gone just over 3 yrs just before he turned 85.
Miss him lots.
I'm very sorry for your loss..

You have my condolences. My lovely Pa died four months ago. It was time for him to go too, but it doesn't make it any less painful does it?
