Just that. I never expected it to take this long. Just watching and waiting feels torturous at the moment.

Dear OP, just to say I’m thinking of you. Virtual hand to hold from the northern hemisphere 🩷

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 23/03/2026 08:23

It's incredibly hard and you have my sympathies. Remember to take care of yourself as well

My mum was put on eol 4 weeks ago today and she was gone just after 9pm. My dad who was diabetic was 4 days.

So sorry you are going through this difficult time. Me and my sisters cared for our Mum at home. In the end she took almost 8 days with no water even before passing. Luckily she had a morphone driver to relieve pain so slept through a lot of this time.

So sorry to hear you are going through this. From a different viewpoint, my Dad passed away in the night, when we went home to sleep. Only the day before he had been talking and drinking, and I will forever regret that he was alone. We were close to the hospital and had been told we'd get called when it was time so thought we could grab some rest. If I had my time back we'd have tag teamed and made sure he was never alone. So give her lots of hugs and company. It's really hard 💐

Don’t feel bad.. some people wait to die, until all loved ones go.

Mum finally passed 3.5 days after the final shutdown of her body began.

Thank you for the video. My DH is in his last few months of life and I don't feel prepared for what he and we will go through when the end is near. He's only 46. It helps to have some idea of what to expect.

Magicpaintbrush · 23/03/2026 16:35

Oh OP, I'm so sorry, I just spotted your update. I'm so sorry for your loss x

RB68 · 23/03/2026 16:43

Mum took just over two weeks, we shared the load and took time in between to do practical things, sorting finances/accounts, making sure paperwork in order, making sure she had the pain relief and other things she needed even if she couldn't say so herself, saying prayers over her that we knew would comfort her, talking about things she liked and telling each other stories as if she could still hear us. Its stressful and its sad but I wasn't there the last evening - I stayed at a neighbours and got a call around 6.30 to come back and I went back and we were with her when she finally went and for about 2 hours afterwards. We all have memories of that time and daft things one or other of us did - my sister insisting on making sure we had christmas cake in to offer callers etc - it was October!!! I can look back on it now and whilst sad she is gone I can see it was completely her time.

RB68 · 23/03/2026 16:44

Just read your update, may she rest in peace.

I am so sorry, the peace comes at such a cost. Take time to process and don’t let anyone push you to do something you are not ready yet to do.
