I appreciate that these articles are meant to be helpful but having just read a link I would ask if the author has any experience of having elderly parents and also if she had made any effort to read any posts from any of us on this thread.

The part about the carers allowance made me wonder on what planet does the author not realise the carers allowance would not even cover my petrol when I was spending a lot of time with my elderly parents.

The line that got me was "It could be money you put in savings or a treat for yourself." Immediately after after "You may be eligible if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and earn less than £132 a week". In what universe is someone on less than £200 per week at best is able to contemplate savings or treats??? The article is a thinly veiled promo for the the product so I guess the content only serves as a filler.

God forbid you accidentally earn ten pence above the threshold as they won't tell you for fifteen years and then demand every penny of it back.

@coffeemonster28 agree it is a lot of filler. Just felt tone deaf knowing what gets posted on the Elderly Parents threads and how difficult the reality is.

Also lots of advice and links but no mention of any help for those of us with difficult, stubborn parents who refuse to engage with any of said advice.

I appreciate some people might learn some new things it just really struck me as tone deaf to reality.

I genuinely think the comment about the carers allowance really set me off. 35 hours caring for often difficult people on top of normal life, sorry £69 to put into savings or for a treat??? Really.

It’s nonsense. Likely to be either AI fluff or written by someone with no experience of being in the same room as an elderly relative except at Christmas.

It's just sponsored 'content' to wrap around promoting the pill thing, rather than an actual article with useful insights into a subject. Much like an increasing proportion of everything found on the internet these days.

It might possibly have been written by a real person, but based on Google and with the help of a bit of ChatGPT rather than personal experience, interviews or any other kind of old-fashioned research - that's what happens when rates for freelance journalists have at best stagnated or more usually fallen by 50% or more over the past 20 years, so no one can afford to put much time and effort in.
