...This Wednesday and Thursday.

Hold my hand.

Good luck - have a large glass of wine too! Are you primary or secondary?

lovecheese · 07/06/2010 13:17

My DH is a secondary head and his top tip has always been to woo the inspectors with top-notch biccies!

slug · 07/06/2010 13:20

Pah! I'm a veteran of OFSTED visits. I refuse to do anything different apart from having an incredibly details context sheet with my lesson plans detail every single little quirk and concern about every single student so I have an excuse for every move or comment I make in a classroom.

tethersend · 07/06/2010 13:22

Thanks!

Secondary PRU; I am a part time HoD (Full time work on part time pay )

Gah.

I am leaving at the end of term, so shouldn't get stressed about it- can't help it though!

Rich Tea just aren't going to cut it, are they?

ok ,thinking of you and sending positive
vibes...

lovecheese · 07/06/2010 13:35

No they're not, at the very least I would say triple chocolate boasters; Mint Viscounts should secure an outstanding. Ooh I vant a viscount now...

michaelschumacherismygod · 07/06/2010 13:37

Jammie Dodgers - they are guaranteed to put a smile on their face!

tethersend · 07/06/2010 13:47

Mint Viscounts.... mmm...

Thanks for vibes and biscuit advice.

And remember that Ofsteds view is not ,by a long way ,even if not subject to distortion by political reasons as I've known it ,the whole story .

tethersend · 07/06/2010 14:56

Thanks violet... this is my 4th OFSTED, but the first time I have had to teach Opening Minds to KS3 instead of my own subject. It is utterly shit, and I don't want my teaching to be judged on someone else's scheme of work...

But I am leaving, so need to get over it.

Cheers, though

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a terrorist?
You can negotiate with a terrorist.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a paranoid schizophrenic?
The schizophrenic only thinks everyone hates them.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a haddock?
One is wet and slippery, and the other's a fish.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a bank robber?
Nothing - Once they have done their jobs, they get away as quickly as they can, leaving devastation behind them.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a soldier?
The soldier jumps to orders and the inspector jumps to conclusions.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a plastic surgeon?
Well, the plastic surgeon tucks features.....

etc etc

katycarr · 07/06/2010 20:36

I left a school to avoid teaching opening minds, so you have my smpathy.

Good luck.

tethersend · 07/06/2010 21:14

Arf- thanks for jokes DanFM

katycarr, I'm sure you'll agree that the biggest joke of all is Opening Minds (nicknamed 'shutting windows' at our school)... I am leaving too, and OM is a part of the reason why. Nice to know someone else knows the horror

OP posts:
katycarr · 07/06/2010 21:16

We called it opening minds, shutting the door on your way out.

tethersend · 07/06/2010 21:17

Teaching it is like wading through fucking treacle.

OP posts:
katycarr · 07/06/2010 21:19

I am unhappy in teaching full stop at the moment, which is very odd for me as I adore my job usually.

tethersend · 07/06/2010 21:21

Are you an art teacher IIRC?

OP posts:
katycarr · 07/06/2010 21:22

No, RE.

tethersend · 07/06/2010 21:23

Ooops, sorry.

OP posts:
tethersend · 07/06/2010 21:24

Not sorry you're an RE teacher... Gah.

OP posts:
katycarr · 07/06/2010 21:24

No worries.

lovecheese · 09/06/2010 19:57

How is it going Katycarr??

roisin · 09/06/2010 20:54

Tethersend - how were Ofsted today?
We have OM in our school too (new: first year with yr7s. I don't yet know if they're rolling it ou into yr8 next year.)

I don't like it at all and am so pleased ds1 is at a different school where they are taught traditional, academic subjects by specialist teachers from the word go.

tethersend · 10/06/2010 20:27

Thank you so much for asking, roisin... I got seen twice, and got really good feedback. It is now over, and that's what matters

OP posts:
violetqueen · 10/06/2010 20:42

What's open minds ?
Or is it too complicated to explain without taking loads of your time ?
