moving from state to private - when to tell current school?

DS will be starting at a local private school in September. He knows but I don't think he can have said much at school as it hasn't got back to any of the mums yet (or if it has, none of them are mentioning it to me ).

What are my obligations to his current school, does anyone know? Do I just wait and tell them in September at the beginning of term? Or do I tell them at the end of this term? Or does DS tell his class mates at the end of this term so that they can say their goodbyes etc but I wait and make it official in September (just in case we go bankrupt/change our minds during the summer and we have to change our plans)

TIA

My DSs are moving to a private school in September. I wrote to the head earlier this month and got a very nice letter back.

Waiting lists are a real issue for the boys' current school and I wanted to give the school time to plan.

cremeeggs, DS's new school does a second hand uniform sale every few months. I got some bits for him just last week and even DS himself said that they look brand new. Perhaps check out the schools website or ask the office.

We're going to get him a brand new blazer though as he's really quite chuffed about having one. His current school uniform is just polo short and sweatshirt.

same here re polo shirt and sweatshirt though must say they are more comfortable than the new school's uniform looks!! Good tip about the second hand sale must look into that. Good luck with it all!
