Anyone else got an extra looooong summer holiday? (State school)

Just realised DS has 7.5 weeks! Breaks up 16th July & returns 8th September.

Is this normal? Never noticed much over 6 weeks before -although, to be fair, his recent hols have all been exact weeks with no extra days tagged on, but still - that is a very long break to fill.

Anyone else?

They used to have 8 weeks when they did Saturday mornings, but it went down to 6 when they dropped them (in 2002) - don't know why it's so long this year. Our school is 22nd July to 6th September.

30 June to 30 Aug

but we are Not In The Country.

muggglewump · 22/04/2010 22:03

We usually get 7 weeks, though I'm not sure of the dates this year but it tends to run from a, say, Wednesday, to a Wednesday so 6 full weeks plus the extra days.

RollaCoasta · 22/04/2010 22:10

21st July to 31st August

Hello Rusty

Yes, they are breaking up about a week before the official Council "term date" - which he is very happy about, but I just see prolonged boredom setting in as I only have 2 weeks off.

Milliways: You are so lucky. I am full of envy, we have just 6 weeks.

foureleven · 22/04/2010 22:17

Nearly 8 weeks too arghhhhhh

Milliways · 22/04/2010 22:22

MrsWeasley - I am not lucky - I only get 5 weeks a year, taking 2 this summer. Now DS - he IS lucky.....

I would love it if I was a SAHM though

end of july-beg september. think it's 5 weeks. how sucky

mankyscotslass · 23/04/2010 07:56

We finish on the 23rd July and go back on the 1st September.

cocolepew · 23/04/2010 07:59

30th of June to the first week in Sept. In N.I.

bruffin · 23/04/2010 08:01

break up 23rd july but don't go back to 6th september.

FourArms · 23/04/2010 08:17

Ours break up on the 16th July, but the term dates don't show what date they go back! Maybe never!

oshgosh · 23/04/2010 09:27

Have just looked at our dates: July 10th to Sept 6th so that is 8 weeks and a day. Lucky DS!

Thankfully, he is old enough to lie in bed until midday amuse himself.

mummytime · 23/04/2010 11:50

Off on 23rd July back 2/3 September. Only problem we have is getting to the other end of the country for Wedding on 24th.

Portofino · 23/04/2010 12:06

We're abroad too - 1st July to 1st September.

MrsC2010 · 23/04/2010 12:12

We had 8 wks at private school, but ours is short this year at 5.5 wks. We don't finish till 21st July.

But, I'm not going back in Sept cause I'll be on maternity leave, so I can't complain!

Ivykaty44 · 23/04/2010 12:15

23rd july - 6 september

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/04/2010 12:20

Not entirely sure as we are moving house but looks like term ends July 23rd and new one starts 1 September. That doesn't feel like very long.

Although maybe there will be training days.

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/04/2010 12:21

Suppose also if you are in 6 term part of the country then you probably get a shorter summer holiday and longer ones at other times. There will be the same amount of days at (state) schools; it just differs when exactly they happen.

mrz · 23/04/2010 18:00

23rd July - 6th Sept exactly 6 weeks and we work on a three term system

Milliways · 23/04/2010 20:29

We are 6 terms here,

OP posts:
LillianGish · 23/04/2010 20:32

29 June to September 6 (French school).

WeNeedToLeaveInFiveMinutes · 23/04/2010 20:34

Six terms here, so five weeks plus the late August bank holiday.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/04/2010 08:54

10 weeks - mid June to end August.
