How many children at your child's school?

purepurple · 06/03/2010 10:17

DD goes to a high school and there are 1621 pupils, including 6th form.

When I went to school, a grammar school, there were less than 300 in the whole school, including 6th form.

How about your children's schools?
Who has the lowest?
Can anyone beat DD's school?
I got my figure from the school website.

54 pupils ranging from the ages of 4 to 11.

DS1 - comprehensive secondary about 1400 pupils

DS2 - SN secondary, currently 10 pupils, but we are looking to move him to a school with 50-75 pupils

DD1 and DD2 - state primary 465 pupils. Next year DD1 will be at state girls' grammar with 700 pupils.

1500 with no 6th form.

roisin · 06/03/2010 20:42

I work at an Academy. We currently have c.1750 pupils, but are operating across two sites. We are in the process of trying to get authorisation to move to one single site eventually. And numbers will gradually reduce to 1200.

ds1's secondary has 1050.

Both schools are 11-16 only.

At my old school, there are almost 2500 including the sixth form. So bloody massive. At the school I teach at, 1000, which, to me, seems tiny!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/03/2010 21:45

Ds primary 700+. Nursery to year 6. Three form entry from reception.

Dd indi secondary approx 800 Inc 6th form.

DCs' HS in the US -- approximately 3,600 students (age range 14-18 ish; four years, 8th to 12th grade) During the baby boom years of the late 60s and the 70s there were apparently about 6,000 students enrolled. I don't know where they put them all.

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/03/2010 21:52

DS and DD at a lower school from nursery to year 4. About 140 including part time nursery at the moment.

taffetacat · 06/03/2010 21:58

DS small village but large-ish primary 350

Split years - 45 intake

MmeBlueberry · 06/03/2010 22:01

We, me and my daughters, have less than 300 students from pre-nursery to upper sixth.

The small size is one of the things I love about the school. I teach almost everyone from year 5 up, and know by name many of those that I don't teach. I don't have to look at school photos when I am writing reports .

I also never have to battle through crowds at the change of lessons, and I know all the staff really well. I can also get involved in the 'full life of the school', eg do Games and help out with Music/Drama productions.

My DSs have about 900 in their senior school (22 in every KS3/4 form), which is a nice number to give them the full breadth of opportunity without being overcrowded.

The secondary school is lovely it has a very communal feel to it. It doesn't feel too small. it fits us perfectly!

DS's school has about 25 I think, it's fairly new so only reception to year 2 at the moment. We're moving in the summer and he'll go to another smallish primary, I guess about 150.

BigTillyMint · 07/03/2010 10:08

BrigitBigKnickers · 08/03/2010 18:20

DD2s primary is 510

DD1s Independent 3-16 150 in the Secondary dept and the rest in the prep school.

The Grammar DD2 is going to in September has approx 750 with another 150 in the 6th form

ampere · 08/03/2010 19:12

1400 in secondary (11-16)

420 in primary, 4-11.

I have always felt it's not the number of DCs in the school that matters it's the organisation.

FabIsDoingPrettyWell · 08/03/2010 19:17

My children are at primary school and there is about 540 children there. 3 classes for each school year.
