...and how much stress was that!

dd1 went as the white rabbit from alice in wonderland
all home made (phew!)
i was most smug when all the other girls in the class turned up in their asda/tesco HSM cheerleader or princess costumes

pollywobbledoodle · 05/03/2009 14:34

sleeping beauty.....no stress at all [cop out emoticon]

Fimbo · 05/03/2009 14:35

For some reason the school ds is at don't do the dressing up bit anymore.

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 14:35

last year dd went as the cat inthe hat and i was most proud but a girl who had on a disney princess woolies bought outfit won the first prize

Fimbo · 05/03/2009 14:36

Was she one of the loud, always talking to the teacher types NP? I find they win every bleeding thing at school.

Divineintervention · 05/03/2009 14:36

Pirates...
One may go as a spy with a newspaper with eye holes, sun glasses and a fake beard or a hat.
They have gone as a Knight before, a spider and a tiger......all, except the knight, homemade because I haven't enough to do!

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 14:37

the child isnt but her mother is

also i think it was her birthday. maybe has a point, but most unfair i think

LGoodLife · 05/03/2009 14:38

The teachers dressed up too - one as Harry Potter with paper glasses!

mrsmaidamess · 05/03/2009 14:38

Ds was Mike Wasowski (yes I have a costume bought from ebay many moons ago, no frantic sewing here)

I am a memeber of staff there so had to dress up to. I was Mary Poppins and was practically perfect in every way.

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 14:38

an enormous sponge bob walked past the house this morning
it was THE best ever dress up outfit i have ever seen

LGoodLife · 05/03/2009 14:39

LOL!!! at the spongebob - how surreal!

ours is tomorrow, dd1 is going as Meg and her friend will Mog, it was nice and easy as dd1 had a witches outfit from Halloween (a bit of a cop out really).

Jux · 05/03/2009 14:42

The school decided to have a World Pyjama Day instead. We have a few inches of snow here (hooray) so dd decided to go in her normal uniform - too bloody cold for pjs. No stress at all, except the school phoned us to take dd home at 10.30.

NormaSnorks · 05/03/2009 14:46

OK, call me pedantic... but I thought the point of dressing up on World Book Day was to dress up as a book character?

I steadfastly refuse to let the DCs go as anything that wasn't a book first....

mrsmaidamess · 05/03/2009 14:49

You are pedantic. Its hard enough thinking of something at 8 am on book day. We had Darth Vadars, storm troopers, all sorts at school today.

GossipMonger · 05/03/2009 14:52

Ours is tomorrow

DS1 is Mr Funny

DS2 is Mr Tickle

I am Little Miss Contrary!

All homemade too. and I have been organised for 3 weeks!

NormaSnorks · 05/03/2009 14:54

Tsk, Tsk...

Should we perhaps rename it 'World Crappy costume from Asda Day' then do you think?

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/03/2009 14:54

am so relieved that we don't have to do this now ds is at secondary school - hooray !!!!!!

Divineintervention · 05/03/2009 14:56

NS, I like your style!!

Jux · 05/03/2009 14:57

Agree absolutely with mrsmaidamess. Otherwise it's a complete waste of time.

mrsmaidamess · 05/03/2009 15:11

The thing is, the way childrens literature is now, there ARE books with Darth Vadar etc in...I know in a pure sense they shouldn't be allowed, but if the character is in print somewhere I think its fine.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/03/2009 15:12

NS - agree so much with you there ! it used to annoy me no end...

Smithagain · 05/03/2009 17:50

Katie Morag. Wellies, her own kilt and a T-shirt with a zig zag line painted around the neck.

Effort pretty minimal and I she definitely got brownie points for actually being from a proper book.

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 17:51

oh i love katie morag
dds teacher went as grannie mainland - it was hilarious

Smithagain · 05/03/2009 18:27

Me too, nailpolish. I'd have loved to see grannie mainland.

DD's teacher was Mrs Wobble the Waitress and carried it off with great aplomb.
