hi my daughter has been permanently excluded and the la have to provide alternative education there is one pru in our town and they have rang saying that she has to attend this one
i was just wondering if i have to accept this place or could i apply for another school

Why don’t you want her to attend the pru? It may be a better environment for her than the standard school environment she has been struggling in so far.

@PinkFrogss she wont attend it she has really bad anxiety and she cant adjust to change

What are the reasons given for why she has been excluded?

You need to encourage her to attend, ideally with support from any professionals involved. Can she visit? Otherwise she may be offered education out of school but that may not be as much contact time as a pru, nor offer the same range of subjects. Is there a plan to phase her back to ms?

Well she is going to have to adapt to change as the school she is used to won't have her back. What is the difference in change between a new school or a PRU? She clearly needs close management which a school can't provide her with.

Why would going to a different school be any better?

PRUs will be used to managing and supporting children like your daughter, they’re likely to be far more understanding than a regular school.

I read this as a child has been excluded for having a hair perm

@IneedtheeohIneedtheeeveryhourIneedthee there is only one pru in our area and she knows the children there and has had problems with many of them and has been bullied she has never been suspended before either i just dont think she will fit in

@LIZS i really dont want her to attend it either she made one mistake that led to her being permanently excluded and the pupils at this pru she has had issues with
i told her she would be attending here and she has harmed herself i did ask for help from the gp

What was the mistake OP? I imagine it must have been pretty serious if a permanent exclusion followed.

Never been suspended but yet they have gone straight to permanent exclusion? So it must have been a very serious one off incident. Something doesn't add up.

What are her alternatives?

If she won’t attend the pru, will the authority provide EOTAS? If not, will you home educate?

If it was a single incident that led to a PEx, it must have been serious.

Is the pru a temporary measure until another school is offered?

Maybe knowing others there will give her motivation to change behaviour. She has to understand that what she would prefer (presumably return to school and friends) is not an option at present. Did that environment contribute to the reason for exclusion? Is she under cahms for her mh issues?

@Bluevelvetsofa yes it was quite serious the pru is for 6 weeks then she can apply for mainstream school however i just know its going to be really difficult she wont attend
and i dont think there are any alternatives i wanted to homeschool the lady from la said i couldnt

@LIZS yes she is under camhs its not about friends as she dosent have many and struggles in school
i work near to were the pru is and have seen many fights happen and kids smoking weed and other drugs and it just isnt the right environment

If it’s for six weeks and there are no alternatives, then your choice is limited. She’ll have to do it, so there will be the possibility of a different mainstream school.

@IneedtheeohIneedtheeeveryhourIneedthee yes it was serious she threatened the school i am really ashamed about it to be honest but i just want to move forward and the pru i really dont think is best option

but the lady on phone said that it isnt an option

The PRU will be the best chance she has of making her next school placement a success as they should identify the support she needs. Does she have an EHCP?

You need to set your emotions aside and be positive about pru. It is six weeks while the LA sort out an alternative school. What does she want to do, given the circumstances? If she is taking gcses soon it is all the more important to keep some continuity of learning.

And if you are working HE does not sound feasible, especially given her vulnerabilities. What happened when she missed school previously?

@LIZS yes thats my worry i am working but thought i could pay for some tutoring she is in year11
when she missed the school because of anxiety they would just authorise the absences every week
