Dame Allans Newcastle Entry Test - Year 7

I am hoping for my DS to get an admission either in Dame Allan's (first preference) or Royal Grammar Newcastle in Year 7. The admission tests are in Jan 2026 and we have been working pretty hard.

I am wondering how hard is it to get admission with the new seats quota that opens up at these schools in Year 7?

We've also been preparing using Atom Learning—has anyone found it worthwhile? And are there any in-person tuition centres or support groups in or around Newcastle that you'd recommend?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Are you looking for a bursary place or will you be a full fee player?

The landscape is changing with the fee changes due to VAT and other increased taxes. If you're a full fee player, I think if you perform fair to middling and have a couple of interests (eg sport/music/chess) you'll be fine. If you need a bursary, you'll need to be top of your game (for both schools).

RGS have said quite clearly that they are prioritising existing families for fee support. DA pays bursaries out of fee income so will need to be careful that existing families don't feel that they are subsidising others.

@Allrightonthenight1 Thank you very much for sharing the details 🙏

We will be applying for the full fee paying slot.

Are there any specific preparation platform or local teachers that you'd recommend for the test prep?
