Dame Allan’s Newcastle – Rumours

Not sure of the accuracy but I’ve heard some rumours that all isn’t well at Dame Allan’s, drop in numbers for Sept, redundancies, 3 governors resigning at the same time, talk of the diamond structure being disbanded and the school going fully co-ed, and teachers resigning without jobs to go to.

I’m getting concerned as DC is quite happy there and it doesn't sound good. I thought after the strikes things had settled down. Intend to write to the school but if the communication is the same as when the strikes were on then I’m not expecting a quick response.

Anyone else heard anything?

Well Durham Girls is going co-ed so wouldn't be surprised.

So it seems it's true then and the diamond structure is being scrapped and the school is going co-ed from Sept 26.
I wonder how many redundancies there will be......

As an Allanian, this makes me really sad. I attended Dame Allan’s in the late 90s/ early 2000s and it was a fantastic school.

Yes the diamond structure has gone. Yes there will probably be a logo change since there'll be no 'diamond' anymore. Yes the uniform will probably change. But apart from that expense will it really be that bad?? There's rumours of NSB merging with NHSG.

Falling numbers and redundancies isn't a Dame Allan's problem it's a private school problem - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/tax/labour-triggers-biggest-private-school-pupil-exodus-decade/

At least they're trying to do something about it.

Just following along/bumping for interest. I’ve seen NSB (I used to teach there) has announced a co-ed change in prep and 6th form. After the merger of Church and Central years ago, I wonder how NSB merging with NHSG would go down.

I most recently taught at a much bigger independent much further south that doesn’t seem to be struggling (I can’t see RGS ever struggling either tbh).

I don't think NSB is going to merge with NHSG.
The rumour I heard is that NHSG might become an academy.
There's precedence for this in the GDST of which NHSG is a member. Two schools are already academies.
It's just a rumour though at the moment.
