NLCS School Uniform - I dislike it

This thread is somewhat arbitrary. I have been exploring schools and preparatory institutions in North London and Camden, and I have noticed minimal distinctions among them. One aspect that particularly catches my attention is the school uniform. I have a strong interest in NLCS; however, I find the uniform unappealing and, in fact, quite dislike it. Conversely, I have a favourable impression of the uniforms at SHHS and St Mary's.

I am interested to know if others experienced a significant reaction to school uniforms and whether this impacted their choice of school.

Growing up, a local school had a brown and yellow uniform... so glad I didn't go to that one!

I am glad it not just me - I think brown is unusual colour for school uniform.

dislike of the uniform at NLSC and Habs was one reason I didn't push my DDs to go for those schools. certainly not the only reason, but one of them.

The NLCS uniform is hideous. The sort of thing you'd design if you were trying to win an award for the most unattractive outfit. Who on earth thought brown and light blue were good together?!

Now you see I love sky blue and brown together.
And brown uniforms in general remind me of Malory Towers!

To be honest though it doesn't look great on boys unless they're going for a 1970s vibe

Not liking the uniform is a very superficial reason for rejecting a school which could offer a good quality education. On that basis I would not have gone to my grammar school where we wore yellow blouses and a brown pinafore. BTW, parietal, I don’t know when you looked at Habs but the uniform changed 18 months ago.

I wouldn't reject a school purely on their uniform but when there is very little difference between the schools, the uniform style can help eliminate certain schools.

In my personal opinion the uniform doesn't match the vibe or energy of the school. I like SHHS and St Mary's uniform because they are bright.

This!!! Utterly ridiculous reason to rule out one of the top girls schools in the country!!!

It's usually NLCS that rejects, not the other way round 😂

It's better than it was when I went there (it was brown and yellow)... but I don't wear brown anymore... (nor navy blue, which was my other school)

This made me laugh so much! I went to NLCS, I am now 47! I haven’t been able to wear brown until this year, I have just bought a lovely brown cardigan. But my school days were amongst the happiest of my life - it was a wonderful privilege to go to NLCS..

Yes the brown uniform at Central High in Newcastle definitely influenced my decision as an 11 year old 🤣

I thinkmy area specialised in crazy uniforms (all state schools...)

• the brown yellow mentioned. That was brown trousers, skirts, blazers, ties, and jumpers, and yellow shirts.

• the blue uniform. As in blue trousers, skirts,jumpers, blazers, shirts, ties, the lot. Not navy, blue!

• the burgundy uniform where the girls had floppy bow ties.

• a couple of girls schools with heavy wool kilts.

• a purple and lilac uniform.

My school uniform was brown and orange...

IMHO, it can get worse. I'm not a fan of mustard yellow but breeches everyday....

Purple and lilac uniform doesn't sound too bad - St Michael's catholic grammar has a similar uniform. I think it looks okay.

Brown and orange is dreadful.

Those children look in the photo look like they are in prison uniform.

I saw some kids wearing this uniform when I was in Harrods on a trip to London (looking, not buying) and just thought WTF.

I often don't think the colours so much are an issue. It's often the design in those colours.

Haha. I remember being in harrods toy department one Christmas. Some Australian guys were demonstrating the tech toys and assumed the boys from this prep school were members of a scouting group 🤣

I wish my parents had selected a different school for me given the uniform. It was awful and really clashed with my hair colour. The school was great other than that!
