Who else is gearing up for SATS?

My DD13 is back at school tomorrow and has spent loads of these hols revising. Yr9 SATS start in May but mocks etc start straight away. I know options have to be chosen in next few months but the amount of homework this yr has already been minimum 2hrs per night - usually more. She is in a good state school and is very motivated but the pressure on them seems v.much worse than at YR6. Anyone else going through same?

I am SAT-free this year - DS1 in Y12, DS2 in Y7 - hoping by 2007 they will have DIED.

But have never encouraged swotting for them anyway.

codswallop · 03/01/2005 21:43

really shite
didnt see th point of them for year nine
the kids dont even get a bloody certifictcate!

Nutcracker · 03/01/2005 21:44

My Dd is in year 2, so will she do them this year then ???

JanH · 03/01/2005 21:45

They don't get a cert in Y2 or Y6 either, coddy.

codswallop · 03/01/2005 21:45

think so
think they have phased them out in scotland

codswallop · 03/01/2005 21:45

I know.
no effin gpoint jan

janeybops · 03/01/2005 21:45

Yera 2 SATs have changed I think.

So glad I'm not in pressure cooker of year 5 and 6 SATs prep anymore. Yuck. Always felt sooooo sorry for the kids

milliways · 03/01/2005 21:45

We were assured in Yr2 that they would not know when it was the real test, as would be hidden amongst practices. My DD announced "it was the real on today as all the others have had the wrong dates on the papers"! Yr 2 were fine, Yr 6 were stress - they all want to do well & know what everyone else got. Yr9 just seem something else to worry about before GCSE's.

wakes ditnt have them anymore either

popsycal · 03/01/2005 21:46

oooh i cant talk abotu sats without feeling stressed lol

Slinky · 03/01/2005 21:46

DS1 will be doing his (Year 2) in May. DD1 will be doing her "Optional??" ones in Year 4.

They know they are a load of b**cks - and that they're not for testing them, but to make sure their teacher is doing their jobs properly!

Slinky · 03/01/2005 21:47

Yes, the Year 2 ones have changed this year. Apparently, they are more "teacher-led" assessments.

Nutcracker · 03/01/2005 21:47

So i don't need to worry about them then though ??

JanH · 03/01/2005 21:48

No you don't, nutty, but her teacher might so look out for her telling you "my teacher says"
