(Bugbears - it's all one word. Grin)

Mine is 'ect' for 'etc'.

Agecanonix · 24/01/2024 14:51

I came on to say ECT for et cetera. Only ever seen it on Mumsnet mind you.

"Her and me went to the cinema"

When is ever her and me?

People who say "I done" and "I seen" instead of "I saw" and "I did" 🤯🤯

MagpiePi · 24/01/2024 14:53

Bare with me

Not in this cold weather!

Augustus40 · 24/01/2024 14:54

I would of gone.

Drives me bonkers!

MagpiePi · 24/01/2024 14:54

…and loose for lose.

‘I need to loose 10lbs before my holiday’

FraiseRoyale · 24/01/2024 14:57

People who make fun of others' language mistakes.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/01/2024 14:58

I think the 'ect' one is a result of mispronunciation. Lots of people say 'eck-setera' instead of 'et-setera'.

Abra1t · 24/01/2024 15:00

Didn’t used to
boarders for borders

Chemenger · 24/01/2024 15:00

Could of, should of, would of. Which my phone just autocorrected to “have” in all three cases. I had to change them back and now it’s flagging them as wrong. Thank you Apple.

Flyhigher · 24/01/2024 15:54

@AllProperTeaIsTheft oh f*ck!

Grate- as in ‘this is grate’

All of those mentioned above and probably lots more I could think of.

Chewbecca · 24/01/2024 16:59

You belong in pedants' corner.
It's the only place on MN where you are safe to moan away. And I often learn something new there too!

My current bugbear is that nobody uses its or seems to know when it's isn't correct. Including my own phone's autocorrect.

Topseyt123 · 24/01/2024 17:00

All of the above. It's as though people are butchering the English language.

ExplodingZebras · 24/01/2024 17:11

His instead of he's 🤦‍♀️

His playing football after school. 🤨

Westfacing · 24/01/2024 17:14

Your error in the title shows how easy it is to make mistakes.

108Anj · 24/01/2024 17:16

Nucular instead of nuclear. Pacific instead of specific. Mischeevious instead of mischievous. Brushetta instead of bruschetta

Felicia19 · 24/01/2024 17:17

Fewer instead of less. I've heard this error from BBC newsreaders.
It's in supermarkets with their 'less than 10 items ' aisles. The one supermarket which states 'fewer than 10 items' is in Cambridge, so I've heard. I suppose if they can't get it right, there's no hope for the rest of us.
For those who really want this piece of information:
'Fewer' is for things you can count, and 'less' is for uncountable things such as water.

ExplodingZebras · 24/01/2024 17:11

His instead of he's 🤦‍♀️

His playing football after school. 🤨

That suddenly seems to be very common, I think it must be a phone thing.

Kingsleadhat · 24/01/2024 17:20

Text instead of texted. Generally instead of genuinely. Redundant apostrophes, obviously. I once saw one between the n and t in paint

Kdubs1981 · 24/01/2024 17:20

Agecanonix · 24/01/2024 14:51

I came on to say ECT for et cetera. Only ever seen it on Mumsnet mind you.

"Her and me went to the cinema"

When is ever her and me?

In colloquial English, depending on where you're from

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 24/01/2024 17:25

My phone (iPhone) changes so much I look pretty illiterate a lot of the time. Thing is, it changes it between writing (so looks ok) & sending.

the thing that annoys me THE most is when it changes done/don't should/shouldn't etc. it's going to get me in a lot of trouble one day

User834621 · 24/01/2024 17:29

Flyhigher · 24/01/2024 14:45

"On route", in place of "en route".

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/01/2024 17:30

The 'his' / 'he's' one puzzles me, because I swear I've only seen it in the last year or two.

@AllProperTeaIsTheft oh fck!*
Grin Sorry! I don't correct people's SPAG unless either they are being an utter arsehole or they are willingly engaging in a discussion about SPAG - I figure that either of those things makes them fair game! Obviously you fall into the second category, not the first Smile.

OpalOrchid · 24/01/2024 17:34

F*ck instead of fuck.
