Does anyone have any experience ,knowledge or opinions on Kumon maths? I am considering it as an option for my slightly struggling & unconfident DD aged 6. Thanks!

My son does literacy Kumon and for him its great. He's broderline dyslexic and srtuggles with spelling.

The structure of kumon helps him a lot, as it based on repeat, repeat and repeat until mastery is achieved. School doesn't have time to do this, kumon does and works at his pace.

I rate it, its helped my son...

Yes - no room for individual reactions or varying interpretations or "jumping off" points for discussion.

To give Kumon its due, it's well aware it can't do those sorts of questions so doesn't pose them ... what it does is eg present some sentences about the text with gaps in them, and child has to fill in the gaps with the appropriate words (so showing they've read & understood the text). Sometimes the words are set out in a group at bottom of the page, so child just chooses the likeliest one from the various options. Comprehension by elimination.

In other worksheets, it makes you write the Verb in one box and the Subject in another and the Object in a third and so on.
