Schools with RAAC - what’s yours doing?

Just thought I’d start a thread for those of us whose DC go to a school affected by RAAC.

My teenagers go to a secondary where one of the buildings is affected, meaning 20 classrooms and the canteen are now out of use.

They are implementing a rota where Yrs 8 & 10 will be home-learning one week, Yrs 9 & 12 the next. Both of mine fall into these years so will have a DC home-schooling at all times (and both of mine struggle with it).

Many are saying that this could be the case well into 2024.

one of the local primaries is affected and have not yet opened for the new term. Yrs 4 & 5 are going to be accommodated at a different school in the area.

I am furious on everyone’s behalf

I mostly blame the tories obviously but am really shocked that the schools haven’t got their arses into gear wrt online learning. Did they not learn anything in covid times.

just awful

There's no money though is there? @IWillNoLie

Local authority funding has been cut and cut to the point that there's less money for education per child than there was in 2010.

How are all your children getting on in schools impacted by RAAC? My DDs school is still 70% closed. Portacabins arrived just before Christmas and that's where most of the teaching takes place. Good that they are all in school but they have no access to any resources. Those sitting GCSE and A-Levels are woefully behind in coursework.

The Government seems to think this is ok. Please can you sign this petition to get the conversation started.

I work in a MAT which has 3 affected schools (I suspect I am local to @RAACwoes that scenario in the OP sounds very familiar). We’ve now been promised rebuilding grants, but no timeline for this yet. ‘Luckily’ I suppose ours are primaries, but there’s no stage of education I want compromised for any child as knowledge gaps early on will disrupt the later learning that builds on that foundation.
Sorry to hear that your teens in their exam years are so affected, and thanks for highlighting your petition @JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn

@IDontWantToBeAPieIDontLikeGravy it's so bad for all pupils but my heart breaks for those doing GCSEs and A Levels. They don't stand a chance.
