Second hand Eton uniform: super small?

Looking for a second hand Eton College uniform for DS no2 (I posted for no1 last year and a brilliant mumsnetter kitted me out) who is tiny: he has the body size of a 10 year old. If there are any (ideally London-based) mums of boys who started at Eton ‘very’ little please DM me. Thanks.

How posh are you Agatha?

Heh. As posh as you can be when you’re from scouseland, mate. Sorry to disappoint.

Thanks @BustopherPonsonbyJones : gotta say I didn’t expect these sorts of responses to a used uniform request. Lesson learned… 😟

On the overall question of second hand, OP I am with you, given how much clothes with limited use contribute to climate change.

DoMyBest · 26/07/2023 15:15

Thanks. We’re not perfect but we’re always trying to cut down on new stuff & reuse

I wonder those dry clean services around Eton specificly for the uniform is actually good for environment.

@DoMyBest maybe this thread is best moved to the Boarding Schools board, which was set up precisely because of the repeated derailing of threads like yours which is just asking about secondhand uniform.

@Namechangedforthis25 has it in one. Change the name Eton to Christ's Hospital in the OP - which has an equally difficult to source uniform, and fees not far off Eton's - and you would have had relevant replies, not on whether you should send your kids there, whether it's a terrible place, whether you've made the thread up, etc.

The products of Eton have caused incredible damage to this country in the last 15 years while in government. It’s understandable people want to discuss wider issues.

Also, it seems somewhat peculiar to post about an Eton uniform on a widely read public forum like Mumsnet. Don’t these sort of schools organise uniform sales and aren’t their private social media groups for parents? Unless the real objective of the post was a bit of showing off.

understandable by other people whose chips on their shoulders have worked their way into their brains perhaps

“Chips on shoulder” is just a lame phrase intended to keep people in their place.

There are plenty of good reasons to be concerned about Eton and its ilk. You could educate yourself via this book as a start:

I assure you I have no interest in keeping you in your place, wherever that is. I just think this level of overreaction is really very silly. Comedy stuff.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 26/07/2023 19:37

I also have a DS at a school which is not Eton, but one of those often mentioned in the same breath, sp I have no need to “educate myself” as you suggest 🤣

Clearly you do, as presumably you think these institutions are a good thing.

jonahjones · 26/07/2023 19:40

Excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong but I've always thought Eton was a school for the very wealthy? if so then why can't you afford a new uniform for him?

I think the one my DS is at is yes, clearly.
they are quite different from one another though … perhaps you should educate yourself?

Oh come on now... You can't be serious. No-one is that naive.

AbsoIutelyLovely · 26/07/2023 19:45

Nobody buys new at our school either. You try and dodge it as much as possible, almost like a challenge…..and there are always people asking and giving away on WhatsApp groups. Several second hand uniform sales a year and they’re always mobbed. 😂

Legoninjago1 · 27/07/2023 11:48

Yes same at our prep. Most get some hand me downs from friend and there's a thriving second hand shop. I do a mixture of that and new. Environment is definitely a big consideration.
