Hi, we have just found out that My DD will be going to Wren which was our second choice. Our first was Highlands but we didn’t get in we are 14th on the waiting list so I’m not getting my hopes high. Just wanted know Parent/ students thoughts on Wren who have direct experience of the school. Thank you.

Hi, @Karadag Wondering how you’re getting on. We are on the waitlist for Wren and wondering if you know anything about waitlist movement. Also, interested to get more of a feel for the place as starting to wonder if we should stick with our current assigned school.

Would be great to hear from you or anyone else who has children at Wren or will be joining this year.

Minglewingle32 · 18/03/2023 22:13

Anyone with experience of Wren school Enfield.

Karadag · 20/03/2023 09:32

Hi, @Minglewingle32I don’t know much about the waiting list when I first found out that we got our second choice I emailed admissions to find out where we were on the waiting list and they replied back saying we were 14th. In the mean time I have spoken to a few children that attended Wren as I live near Wren to find out what they think of the school. The ones I have spoken to say they are happy and enjoy going to school. They were all very polite well mannered. They have mentioned that it’s very strict but I think in a good way e.g homework needs to be on time, uniform needs to in order, no make up and so on. Hope it helps.

We would like Wren and are on the waiting list. Have heard similar and have no issues with the reputation of strictness. So frustrating if you don’t get you first choice. You’d like highlands but got wren, we would like wren and taking up a space someone else would like at another school and the pattern continues! 😒

ACS2020 · 21/03/2023 17:31

Hi, just reading these posts. We are also on the Wren Enfield waiting list, what an anxious time it is. 😩Does anyone have any experience in success rates?
Any tips or advice greatly appreciated x

ACS2020 · 21/03/2023 17:31

Completely agree. Am hearing of Highlands being the no1 school but offered Wren instead!!!

mauvemauve · 30/03/2023 22:41

You'd be lucky to get honest opinions about Wren on this platform. Lovely kids but school could do better. Pastoral care isn't the best. Given the choice, I'd go for Highlands

Karadag · 31/03/2023 13:14

Hi @mauvemauve do you have any personal experience of Wren can you please provide more details as we have been offered a place as Wren.

thank you

How is everyone getting on with waitlist positions?

helpmepickausername · 23/05/2023 15:03

Desperate to know more about this school! Heard they had an ofsted late last year but still no report? Does anyone know more? Was hoping it would follow in the footsteps/success of Wren Finchley? Anyone with any honest feedback? Don't mind strictness but keen to know more about it as a whole.

Perry13579 · 16/06/2023 17:39

@helpmepickausername
The report was published today - it got Good - but after a 7 month delay which suggests some "negotiations" had to be made to achieve that.

Hey @Perry13579
Yes! I had set the email alerts, so read it today too. I wonder whether the negotiation was regarding them wanting outstanding? I assume they want to emulate the success of Wren Finchley. Looking at the report, they didn't have many recommendations aside from advising the teachers to not move on to new topics without checking understanding etc. The parent view scores were quite interesting. Be interesting to see how this affects the next round of applicants, as I believe they attracted many families that would normally have gone for Highlands...

ACS2020 · 17/06/2023 07:14

For those on the waiting list, how are you now progressing and if offered would you still pursue with your school place at Wren?

Are you still on the WL? What are your thoughts now? Were you offered a decent alternative?

ACS2020 · 17/06/2023 08:33

Yes we are still on the wait list. How about you?

helpmepickausername · 17/06/2023 18:18

ACS2020 · 17/06/2023 08:33

Yes we are still on the wait list. How about you?

No..DC in yr 5 so thinking ahead for Autumn. Do you know how long the waiting list is and your position? has there been much movement? Be interesting to see what impact the ofsted has on it's popularity.

ACS2020 · 26/06/2023 15:28

Not much movement since March unfortunately. Anyone else having much luck with their waitlist position?

Jcee · 02/07/2023 09:01

I have a child at wren in year 8. We've had a positive experience and my daughter is well settled, enjoying school and doing well.

The Ofsted report was delayed due to Ofsted's view of the single sex teaching in maths, English and science and a second inspection on this specifically had to be arranged hence the delay.

I found that odd as it was one of reasons I chose this school given success at wren Finchley and especially given the other local schools near by are single sex. My daughter has benefited from these arrangements and really built her confidence in maths and science and she enjoys both now.

I agree the parent views are interesting and I suspect is due to strict nature at school. It's very strict with zero tolerance and sometimes a bit ridiculous but upside is behaviour issues are dealt with quickly and expectations of students are clear.

Yes lots of homework and more than my friends kids get at other local schools and regular termly assessments which can feel a bit too full on, but also also lots of fun opportunities through enrichment activities and sports, which my daughter enjoys. Can't comment on pastoral care - we've had no issues specifically but I have heard feedback from other parents who feel this side can be a bit lacking with the laser focus on behaviour and achievement.

helpmepickausername · 02/07/2023 17:48

Thanks @Jcee that's super useful. I also feel the single sex classes for core subjects is good and they were praised at Wren Finchley for this so it's odd that Ofsted were funny about it this time.

ACS2020 · 10/07/2023 14:24

Hello, has anyone’s waitlist position changed recently, and if so positively or negatively?

Karadag · 10/07/2023 19:53

@ACS2020 Hi, we were on the waiting list for highlands and we have now been offered a place. Hope it helps.

ACS2020 · 10/07/2023 19:59

Congratulations!! You must be so relieved as I remember your initial post. What a relief it must be. 😊 Bet your DD is over the moon!!!
Were you on the church or community wait list for Wren? Be interested to hear more x

helpmepickausername · 10/07/2023 20:53

Congrats OP!
Considering you were originally 14th on the waiting list, that's pretty reassuring!
Just goes to show how much movement there is.

Karadag · 10/07/2023 22:04

@ACS2020 @helpmepickausername Thank you. Yes DD is over the moon. We were community for Wren. I had lost hope with getting into Highlands as we were 14th on the list but I guess this shows not to lose hope until the last minute anything can happen.

OP posts:
ACS2020 · 10/07/2023 22:11

When did you find out you had got into Highlands? You did so well getting your place considering you were 14th, wow!! You can really enjoy the summer holidays now. Wonderful news 👍
