Royal kids going to Lambrook

I wonder how things will change (if anything) for existing parents/staff. I don’t envy the teachers or Head - there must be so much more pressure with security and press intrusion. I don’t know Lambrook particularly well but I’m not surprised they’ve chosen it!
Would you be happy if royal children started at your children’s school?

Whether she knew or not KM & Pippa were prepared perfectly to marry into aristocracy... They could ski to a high level (black slopes) play tennis, horse ride, row, very strong swimmers, play hockey, athletics.. Their future was planned meticulously!

I can do all those to a pretty high standard (ok, my athletics prowess is rather mediocre) and I went to a normal High School. No royal intentions.

My parents must be really cheesed off they spent a fortune on my education, taught me to do all of the above, and I didn't even snag an aristo (tho we had minor ones at my school, and met some at the schools we did reciprocal balls with).

After my first term at uni, I went home, where my best friend's mother (titled) asked me whether I was "meeting the right sort of boys - the ones with titles and prospects". She was horrified when I said one of my closest friends was the daughter of an England footballer.

Honestly, there is so much rubbish written about Kate and her parents' ambition. Perhaps they were just doing what loads of private school parents do - give their children an amazing education, prepare them for any social situation, and hope they find happiness with a partner - who may or may not ski, ride, play hockey/tennis/polo etc

Gosh! Imagine the horror of your best friend not being an aristo but only being the child of a high profile English athlete. I expect you were shunned by all your titled mates.

Thanks

Yes, I knew that his place was announced at the start of his gap year (not least from discussion on this thread yesterday!) and should have been clearer that I wasn't asking about that, but about contemporaneous reports at that KM had changed her plans.

(PS: that list of sports - except skiing which is done in the hols - is utterly normal for those who have been at private schools, even London ones though only a few of them offer riding, and I don't think any of those offer polo)

crowsfeet57 · 26/08/2022 22:27

Ironic given Kate’s parents sent her to Marlborough and then St Andrews specifically to get into the royal circle

What went wrong for Pippa then?

AppleKatie · 26/08/2022 22:28

Having worked at several of the kinds of school that the royals either did or might in the future go to, I can say with absolute certainty that the staff do not give a fig about the social climbing natures of the parents and the idea that such an opinion could have been formed about the Middletons in her school days is just abject nonsense.

@HaggisBurger @IHeartPepsi Sounds like she has got what she deserves then if the rumours of his affairs are true. We live very near Highgrove and so we used to see him in action in the local pubs and hunt balls when he was dating her, and he behaved as if he didn't have a girlfriend I can tell you. He and Harry had a special room at one of the very rural pubs, it was upstairs where they could take friends to get away from the attention and play cards 'etc'. All my girlfriends have a Prince William 'story' to tell. I hope he cleaned up his act once he was married but I suspect not.

She deserves her husband to cheat on her?

LivesinLondon2000 · 26/08/2022 22:40

@EdithWeston
There wouldn’t have been contemporaneous reports on Kate changing her plans for university because, like you say, she wasn’t known to the general public then anyway. That would only have been of interest to the media once they were a couple.
But there were contemporaneous reports of a large upswing in applicants - in particular female applicants - generally to St Andrew’s once news got out that William would be going there.

How do you know this exactly?

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 26/08/2022 22:50

Parents at their old school must be pretty pissed off. The kids are young enough that they will make new friends quickly at their new school and won't have the life long friendships with their old friends that those friends' parents might have hoped for.

Yes, thar's what I thought, and why I was asking PP if she could recall (and ideally find again) the one she mentioned about KM's choices:

"The reports at the time were that Kate rejected a place at Edinburgh then took a gap year herself and reapplied for St Andrew’s"

Was Kate at Marlborough at the same time as Beatrice and Eugenie?

To be honest most of the pupils would have had a similar skill set. It won’t have been particularly unusual. Wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow.

I worked at MC when KM was there. It was VERY well known that it was all about improving the Middleton’s social standing and giving her the best chance of getting to a university where she would “mix with royalty and billionaires”. The William plan was properly formulated when she was 14/15. It was absolutely no secret.

''very well known'' as in, her parents told the staff? Kate told the staff?
You sound like a gossip.

What about the other students at Marlborough? Were they all trying to meet william too? or is this accusation only thrown at Kate? How come the others escape this accusation? did they deserve to be at Marlborough? Why did kate not deserve to be at Marlborough?

Pippa who married the billionaire James Matthews? Nothing.

Pippa may well have the best of the bargain. Great wealth and a private life.

Pippa did the best by far... She has a title, multi millionaire as a husband, privacy & has been able to do all her sporty hobbies with privacy...

HappyBinosaur · 26/08/2022 23:37

My friend teaches at Lambrook and her daughter goes there. She’s really happy there both as a teacher and a mum! Apparently it’s a very nurturing school.

I learnt none of the above. My state school was in desperate measures & my parents couldn't afford extracurriculars.. I would have been an embarrassing liability to Willls or any aristo🤣

‘Got what she deserves’ what a bloody awful thing to say.

2002, the media talk about Kate Middleton.

TwentysixV · 27/08/2022 00:05

It’s definitely been reported that she rejected Edinburgh at the last minute to the surprise of her teachers and reapplied to a different course at St. Andrews (the same course as William). And she went to Chile on her gap year to the same place he did/doing the exact same experience just a few weeks after him which he described as a coincidence (I think it’s unlikely it was a coincidence)

antelopevalley · 27/08/2022 00:14

"Kate was initially accepted at the University of Edinburgh, according to Jasper Selwyn, the careers advisor at her boarding school in England.
However, Kate is said to have changed her mind last minute and opted to take a gap year instead, before applying to study art history at St Andrews, where William was known to be attending after his year out."

antelopevalley · 27/08/2022 00:16

"Jasper Selwyn, a careers adviser at Kate’s former school, Marlborough College, and Joan Gall her house tutor, confirmed to Ms Nichol that her first choice of university had been Edinburgh.
However, a change of heart saw Kate decide to reject the place and instead take a gap year before applying to go to St Andrews the following year."
