6 Grammar schools accessible from one postcode?

Indigoo03 · 13/06/2022 06:50

I can't find the original thread though a poster said they were close to six grammar schools? I didn't know that was possible would anyone which areas in England this would be?

I know Buckinghamshire has a lot but even six would be a stretch for accessing from one postcode?

@Quartz2208 how do I find the postcodes that are included?

Which ones are you looking at?

Tiffins both say which postcodes they have (quite a few)
Nonsuch has a ring fenced 15 places for Sutton postcodes (if you pay for council tax) and a fairly large inner catchment area

@Quartz2208 thanks for your prompt response, looking at KT4

Quartz2208 · 14/06/2022 13:25

So we are KT17 Stoneleigh and we are

Wallington GIrls and Nonsuch - within catchment
Tiffins Boys - within 10km you should be
Tiffins Girls - a postcode that is in the designated area again so is KT4
Sutton Grammar - a postcode (as is KT4)

Wilsons - dont really have one need to be within an hour if possible Sutton only takes priority right at the end

Not the final ring fenced places for Nonsuch or the Wallingtons.

So for KT4 your only real difference is that where we are in KT17 Stoneleigh we are 6.6km away from Wally Girls so would get in the catchment

My two local Primaries Meadow and Nonsuch though I know children at all 7 of them

@Quartz2208 that's super helpful & it's only have a DS to worry about.

I think meadows is one of the closest primary to our potential new house, can we apply despite being in Sutton borough?

BumbledBee · 14/06/2022 13:56

SM3 is eligible for all catchment places other than Tiffin Girls.

Surrey is part of the Pan London admissions process so yes it is fairly easy. Living where we live (or in your case about to?) Most of the schools have a mix of both Surrey and Sutton. Meadow Primary and Nonsuch are next to each other and one is Surrey and one is Sutton. The road Meadow is one the Meadow half is Surrey across the road is Sutton.

Where is can be interesting is when High Schools are oversubscribed. Those who live in Epsom would get Epsom and Ewell those in Sutton got Overton Grange. Easily solved though by applying to E&E!

For you then with a DS Tiffins and Sutton Grammar are both included. Wilsons doesnt really have one and Wallington would be fine

@Quartz2208 are they very competitive to get into?

doorbore · 14/06/2022 18:06

the grammars that s

Quartz2208 · 14/06/2022 19:58

@doorbore that is a hard one to answer. I would say that 5 to 10 get in from Meadow every year (out of 80-90 pupils) and another 3 to 6 out of Nonsuch (30) and most who I would expect to get there pretty much do.

But it is the top of the class, you do have to do some tutoring (although the papers have changed this year to try and decrease that) and at least have some exam experience.

DD has 2 girls in her class who moved to CHeam/Sutton after and a few who travel far!

My town is not a grammar school area, however from my children's primary school, children went to grammars in 3 different areas (some even sat all three 11 plus papers!). I know of children who went to at least 10 different grammars direct from that school.
